I just ventured into PRS. I've been shooting/practicing with a RPR in 6.5cm Vortex Gen 2 4.5-27 mils. Rifle performed well in my first match. I can see why Mils is the preferred adjustment for PRS.

Have you ever run MOA for PRS?

Would you sell off the Gen 1 to grab another mil based scope? Or just run it as is?

I'll just be shooting club matches this year. There is some other gear is like/need to acquire for the sport. IE: Like a bag or two, more components for reloading ammo, or would you pass on some of the other small gear and try and use fellow squad mates stuff?

i know guys are helpful at matches, but I feel like I should be providing my own stuff.
Am I wrong here?

I'd like to sell the Gen 1 and upgrade to either another Gen 2 or look at a Mk5 HD. Do you have any other scope suggestion to look at it while I'm shopping for something?

Thanks for any input.

You are wrong that you need your own kit. Every match I've been to, people are happy to share their bags or spotting scopes. Just dont be a douche, ask questions, and ask before you grab their shit. Run what you have until you feel it's the gear slowing you down, not your skill.

Thanks, people were more than willing to let me use out their stuff. Appreciate it. Just feels akward... I know it's dumb, but it is what it is. For me anyway.

nothing at all wrong with moa and i certainly wouldn't sell what i have just to convert from mil to moa.

if people are calling shots for you, just ask them to call in reference to the target. hold half a target left, hold half a target high, etc.

if you see a dust cloud where you missed that is two lines to the right, then just hold two lines to the left; moa or mil never enters the equation and no math or thought process is needed or involved.

and as far as 'a lot of dialing' i think that is based more on your scope's turrets than mil v moa. for instance, one scope i have is 10 moa per turret/knob revolution, another is 20. plus, once you've dialed for a target in an array, generally you will just hold over or under for the other targets in that array, so you're generally not dialing throughout a stage.

for your first couple of matches, yeah i'd let everyone know you're new and ask nicely to borrow their gear. then once you try everything and find what you like, go out and buy some. if you want to feel better about borrowing/trying, bring a cooler of water or gatorade bottles and/or some snacks to spread around, everyone WILL appreciate that.

Well said! Thank you! I'll hold off and run it as it is.

The difference in dialing isn’t worth mentioning.

Moa and Mils accomplish the same thing.

Unless you have someone spotting with a reticle, corrections are going to be more “you missed left.” And if someone is calling corrections in mil or moa without a reticle, ignore them.

The only time its really going to matter is when you start talking about what your holds and dope are. Then you’ll be speaking a different language.

I run mils, but would be fine Using moa.

Mils are easier to share a wind call with the guy before you. If you run moa just be ready to do a little mental math. Ultimately if you fall in love with PRS you’ll want a mil scope as it will just be more convenient. If you’re tight on money or unsure you’ll get into it completely just run what you have and have fun.

Rezeroing the scope of you swap it isn’t really that difficult. You can bore sight it to get you in paper then adjust from there. If you are going to run the bergara more than the rpr I would put the gen 2 on that. One range trip and just a few minutes and you could have both scopes zeroed.

Funny you say this, there was a guy spotting and giving wind calls. I asked if he had a reticle in the spotter. He said he was guessing.

You're right and I may just do that if I like the way it goes.

It works if the mil width of a plate is know.

For example, many targets are about .6mil wide. So you can estimate how many tenths they are off when you compare the miss to the plate. I find this works much less if they miss more than a plate width left or right.

Even then, I’ve been shooting, see a miss with my reticle and measure it. Some very experienced shooters on glass without a reticle call corrections that aren’t even close to what I just measured. A lot of that has to do with the angle they are at in relation to the shooter as well.
