The phrase "Buy once, cry once" always applies. I would use the irons sights for now and save a few more bucks to get the Eotech. You aren't that far away from an Eotech now.

Aimpoint PRO for the stretch or a Vortex PST 1-4x,
then for something to have now - PArms Micro red dot or Bushy TRS25, or up a little for the Vortex Strikefire or Sparc

I got a Primary Arms mount and Millett DMS scope for about $250, and couldn't be happier. They also sell an offset mount for a reflex optic to be mounted on your scope. You can't beat it for less than $300.

Vortex sparc. Probably the best sub $200 red dot on the market. The bushnell trs25 is also decent, but you'll need a riser mount.
The Sparc on my wife's AR15 has been in place for ~2500 rounds, zero change in zero. She rocks a FTS 3x magnifier and has no issues tagging 1/2 ipsc targets to 300yds.
Vortex sparc. Probably the best sub $200 red dot on the market. The bushnell trs25 is also decent, but you'll need a riser mount.

+1 for vortex. great red dots for the money. the new bushnell red dots show some promise too.

I completely agree with many of the above responses.
Primary Arms has best bang for your buck combo red dot with mount.
Vortex is going to have great options for relatively inexpensive optics that function well on AR's (i've owned the PST 1-4x and 4-16x on two different AR's; happy customer!)
However, I also agree with the "buy once-cry once" statement. If you want something to last a while, both battery and product life, consider something like the aimpoint PRO. I put one on my SBR, couldn't be happier after switching from my Eotech 512.

Also try the Sig Sauer Red Dots, probably has the Highest Brightness/Battery Life out of the "Budget" Red Dot Category. Vortex Sparc are Fantastic but slightly lacking in the Battery Life part.
As far as scopes go, give it a hard look at the Nikon P223 4x and 3-9x44 with the BDC ret. Very Good Glass/Quality for the Money. I believe they go for $199 or so.
