Greetings all: I just purchased a new Remington 700 Long Range in 300 win mag for an upcoming trip out west. I installed a Vortex Viper scope 6.5-20 X 50mm PA BDC and a Harris S series LM model bipod. I was worried when I found out about the recall. Just figures all the research I did on which variant to purchase, and the entire line is recalled for trigger problems going back to 2006!
The caliber was a no brainer for me. I fired a 308 Norma Mag in the Marines in the mid 70's. Very close ballistics on both. Found a small gun shop that had a few 700's in stock and had no problem letting them go and at a really great price. will replace the trigger assembly with a Timney unit so the trigger recall is a non issue.
I have been out of the gun world for 35 years. Sold all I had so my now Ex-Wife wouldn't use any of them on me.
Some things have changed over the years. All the opinions on barrel break-in, the array of cleaners and lubricants and the myriad of ancillary options that could be added.
I was advised regarding a brand of expensive optics but chose the Vortex brand. The glass clarity is amazing. Price was a huge consideration also. I implore those who are considering new optics to give them consideration. Ammo types for hogs to large game. Even considering long shots on coyotes.
I want to start out on a good footing and am open to suggestions. Was told GunZilla was all the cleaner and lube that was needed. I have never heard of it but some research lends credence to some of the claims.
I would like to install a good sling to the weapon also. I know this is an extensive list but I want to get the biggest bang for my limited buck.
The biggest perk is that these purchases were made with tax refunds. Hope that puts a smile on Obama and the IRS's collective faces!
