The cocking action on my new rifle has always been really stiff. I just figured it was a characteristic of the gun but as I took the bolt out to do a little cleaning I noticed metal shavings and the below photos. I can't figure out what's causing it or why it happened. Any ideas?

No, I was going to take it to the gunsmith that built the rifle first but he's on extended holiday but if he was no help that's where I was going to head next.

its going to need a new cocking piece at a minimum, hopefully the ramp section on the bolt can be polished out, if not it may need a new bolt as well. Either way your smith and surgeon need to figure if it was just a faulty part or an error on the smiths part. Surgeon won't have a problem getting you a new cocking piece as long as that is the actual problem.
