Now that I decided that I'm going with a B&C stock instead of the AICS, I can spend that money on a new better barrel, or blueprint the new setup.

just FYI I have the Remington 700 ADL which I'm putting B&C Medalist Tactical w/Wyatt's DBM kit. so I have about 500 more bucks to spend to reach my budget.

where should that 500 go?

a new barrel? (from where?)

or blueprint the new setup?

Also, how much does gunsmiths charge to rebarrel the rifle?

I was looking at the ershaw barrels, they seemed like a good deal. not sure if I care for the fluting.

Thanks guys

so far my setup is

R700 ADL .30-06
B&C Medalist Tactical A2
Wyatt's DBM w/10 round
Millett TRS-1

I figured I get the setup I want while I have the money. because after, there won't be any.

it shoots just fine as it did in stock form, but I'd like to get it how I want it with the money I put away for it.

Well per say if he wants a heavier barrel contour, i would say yes. Sure i like my 5R, i've had it 2 years it's a great shooter, but it's not going to stop me from putting a Bartlein or Rock creek 24" 5R M24/M40 on there.

My Dad has built a lot of hunting guns with ER Shaw barrels on them. If I was building a precision rifle, I would not cheap out
on the barrel. While you may get one from them that shoots bugholes, you may get one that your old barrel will hang with.
Rock, Kreiger, Bartlein, Brux, Broughton, Obermeyer all are premium barrels and there are others that are just worth the extra money. If its chambered properly, they shoot.

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

I've never really looked into Ershaw, read good things about em. I've pretty much settled on Bartlein but if I could find either one before one another i would take either.

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

I don't know about other peoples experience with ER Shaw, but my uncle ordered a .260 SS barrel from them in mid January and still hasn't received yet. Just search other peoples wait time so you're not waiting for months.

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

You're kind of in the chicken and egg thing! If the action is too far out, you may not realize the potential of a match grade barrel. Generally, you can expect to pay $500-$600 for a barrel and machine work (chambering, threading, and muzzle. A 'blueprinting' job will cost around $200-$300. You can't tell how true the action is until the rifle's apart and can be measured.

Many gunsmiths and/or rifle builders will offer an accurizing package that will true the action and bolt, and re-cut the chamber. You should see a little improvement over what you have, altough not to its full potential. When you get enough for the barrel, you can add it anytime....everything else will be ready to go

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

Yes generally when you rebarrel it is a good time to true the action. I see you are in Florida, you might want to hit Bugholes up on the forum he is there also and stocks Rock 5r barrels and Oby's and I believe chambers rifles as well.

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

How do I look bugholes up?

I'll send him a pm/call him...

Thing is I have a .30-06 so I doubt a 5r barrel will work, or if he stocks any -06s

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

I'm in the same boat as you taseal, I bought a rifle and have been upgrading it part by part to get it where I want. I purchased a barrel from bugholes and I am going to blueprint the action and have the barrel chambered, crowned and hopefully I'll be done... yea, right. Maybe wasn't the best way if going about it but its almost done. And its what I want. Next time I'll be a little smarter after learning a lot on this site.

Good luck with your rig.

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

Thanks bud!

so if I get one of these Rock Creek 5R barrel blank (http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2514026&page=1) from bugholes, rebarreling will be around 250?

I'm assuming a blank barrel is just the cylinder with the rifling, and that's it. when someone rebarrels for 250, that means someone will do their gunsmith magic and install that blank to my rifle?

Re: What's next after new stock? rebarrel or blueprint

You'll order the barrel contour of your liking and what twist you want. Greg/bugholes carries certain kinds, a bit to choose from. Best thing is to call him up and see what he can do for you.
