I have been using IMR 3031 for my .308, but recently i have used the new 8208XBR which meters so much more consistently. I have yet to shoot any of the loads i just made with the XBR but i was able to get loads consistent down to the hundreth of a grain. What are some other powders are good?

Re: Whats the best powder?

Powders in the proper burn range are shown in your loading manual, none of us can do better than that. "Best" powder is determined by YOUR rig, none of us can tell you what it will prefer.

The metering of IMR 8208 XBR is fantastic and I have a wonderful load using it in my 270 Winchester. I've tried it in some other cartridges and didn't get as good results accuracy wise but I think it would be worth trying in a 308 and I'll probably do so at some point.

Alliant Power Pro 2000-MR is a nice powder for 308 Win also. It is a flattened, very short, extruded powder but it looks almost like a ball powder. It flows like a ball powder and provides great velocity and accuracy. I am getting 2700 fps in my 24" 700PSS with 175 gr SMK in Win brass.
