Hello, I shoot MOA consistently at 500 yards and I use Win brass, IMR 4064, and 147 HPBT Berger. I am wanting to to go out to 1000 so I am considering going to Lapua brass and 175 Seirra match but unsure of what powder to use. My barrel is a Schneider 610 M40 contract barrel (1-12 twist) Any help much appreciated.

I use IMR4064 with the 175 SMK projo. I also use WCC brass for this particular load. It's good out to 1K easily. My other 1K load that I shoot more often is the 155 senars.

43.6 Grains of Varget, Lapua Brass,175 SMK, Fed 210 Match primers, and I seat em long just off the lands. Cant really go wrong with Varget imho

Well that stings Swan lol, I know the book work of it already but I was just seeing what people have tried and found out. you know the knowledge that mathematics and what should happen and what actually happens gives. I appreciate the feedback and I kinda see the trend between 4064 and Varget. Moght even try the ol win brass at 1k thanks again

Re: Whats your favorite load for long range .308?

FWIW, I have been using 45.0gns of RL15, winchester brass and primer with 175 SMK's and have had great results out of multiple weapons. That being said I have seen alot of guys using the varget and 4064 and will be trying that out too. Best of luck!!

45.0 Varget/Lapua brass/Fed 210M/175 SMK. 2830 fps. from my 30" Broughton. The reason people like 4064 is that it is a terrific powder...people like Varget because it is basically temperature controlled 4064, therefore terrific +.

Agree. That's a hot load. That's what I used in my old AIAW. The new one takes 48 grains of Varget. It's extremely hot, so folks please work up accordingly.

What could be easier than that?

Man, That is a hot load. I'm running 46.6 Vgt behind a 155 scenar in a 20" LTR and I'm getting 2840 avg out of this load. I went to 46.9 and 47.2 looking for more vel, but the accuracy fell off a liitle and the primer was showing signs of pressure.

Re: Whats your favorite load for long range .308?

Hey thanks for all the great replies. The problem I am running into that is with a 175 gr bullet seated to 2.800 OAL doesn't have room for 43 grains of IMR 4064. I am using win brass and when I say it doesn't have room it can seat the bullet but it compresses the powder a lil which makes me nervous cause I want to avoid pressure spikes in my new barrel/ chamber

Re: Whats your favorite load for long range .308?

what velocity does someone get out of a 700P using CCI BR2 primers 43.5 grains of varget and 175 gr SMK? i saw that a 24" barrel was getting about 2600 fps with the same load so would the 26" barrel get about 2650 fps giving the extra 20-25 fps per 1" of barrel length?

Every rifle is different (to a degree) and custom barrels/chambers tend to do better in fps than factory. That said, my 26 factory remington varmint gets 2645 adv. with 44.5 grains of varget. My 21" rock creek barreled action will do 2650 with the same load while my rem tactical 20" turns in 2550fps. FWIW
