I use three. Have a custom Remington with a 22" varmint contour barrel in .243, and an AR-15 chambered in 6x45. For close work I use a 12 ga. Remington Tactical with #4 Buck.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote rif

i started with a 700 sps in .243. had a smith ackley improve it and true the action. then i put it in an hs stock. added a vari 3 lighted reticle scope and a jewell trigger. for about 2g i have a gun that shoots as good as many customs for about half the price. it will hold 1/2 moa out to 600 yards when i do my job.i couldn't be more pleased with the result.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote rif

those little cz 527 varmint rifles are pretty cool. I had one in 204 ruger. The rifle was great, I just didnt like the 204. I had way to many run offs!! Lee

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote rif

My favorite is a 6X45 HB with an ACOG,Insight M6X for Night hunting. For distance I like a 20" BBL AR with a 1:8 twist and Nikon 6-18 SF.I had a 26" WOA barreled AR in .204 that I sold, liked the accuracy but it was way too bulky for the field.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote rif

Well since I'm a farmer and keep a rifle in my work trk or Polaris Ranger all the time, the rifle I use the most is an older, beatup, few rust spots, Ruger MkII synthetic 223, topped with an old beatup, wear spots, Leupold 3x9. I usually use cheap, bulk fmj ammo also. I would like to use one of my custom rifles more, but then they would look like this rig in a couple of months. You generally kill em with what you got!

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote rif

Have used a Cav arms lower AR-15 with 20" 1 in 7 twist mil spec lite contour barrel for several years. Nice and lite for those long walks to a set, plenty accurate (sub moa with 69 SMK) and good knock down even out to 400 yd. Use a 2.5-7 Kahles scope with the TDS reticle.

An AR will let you get some doubles when more than one comes in at a time, and they are very reliable. If you screw up the first shot (it happens) then you have plenty more to follow up with.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote

If I was gonna do one just for the trunk it would be a M-4gery, otherwise a sporter wieght or light varmit taper .223 or Savage set in a Stockade hunting style stock, and I've got a 3.5-10 Leupy sitting around doing nothing.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote

An AR with a 20-24" barrel would be perfect. Get a rock river rifle with a target barrel or build one custom. I think a semi-auto is the way to go for coyote hunting.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote

I would have to say the 220swift It is flatter shooting than the 22-250, althought there is nothing wrong with that caliber either. People say they burn barrels but I say if you are coyote hunting it is totally different than say sitting at a prarie dog town.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote

I built a PBR XP into a lil coyote rig. I haven't used this one yet, tho. I intend to use 110 grain VMax's on yotes and PD's at moderate ranges mostly. It's about to be fitted for a suppressor, too.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote

If I have to buy a factory gun for yotes, I'd prolly run and gun a Kimber Montana in .22-250 or .243. Tally rings and prolly a 3.5-10*40 Leupy.

Would weigh in roughly about 6.5lbs.

I know when I'm walking in asshole deep snow, I want my equipment as light as possible.

I'm gunning a custom .17rem myself.

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote rif

i second Randy's vote , the 6mm-223 out of a 16" barrel is awsome , shoots the 55gr BT's faster than the 223 and their BC is higher. Top it with a bright variable power (on the low manification side)and you should be good from point blank to 300yds easy

Re: whats your idea of the ultimate factory coyote

It would be very tough to find a better coyote rifle than a tikka t3 lite. I carry one in 223 and love it. You could have it in 22250 or 243 or whatever you like. The point is, they are light which is very important. Shoot great again, very important and easy to get. I have a burris 4.5-14 on mine which I consider the best hunting power going. I and knobs installed on mine. I can dial out to a 500 yd steel plate any time I want to. I shoot 75 smks in mine as it is a factory fast twist. Black hills white box. I hunt them all winter long in Kentucky. I have tried to carry my ar-15. I guess it would be good for running shots ect but you carry it more than you shoot it and ar-15s just plain suck for that. Maybe I haven't found the right one yet. Mine is a Rock River varmint with a 16in barrel and a 2.5-8 leupold mark4 mrt in a larue mount. Pretty good set up for other stuff I guess. Once you ever start fooling around with these tikka's you will really start scratching you head. Thinkning why have I not got on this bus earlier?
