I was thinking about picking up the Wheeler barrel vise and action wrench so I can attempt to do my first rebarrel job. I would like to know if these are any good and worth the money.
I like the vice it works well. made my own wood blocks to fit barrels, cheaper. Oak works well. I use resin (brownells) on blocks does not mark surface. Wrenches need something to protect action. I tried leather and lead sheets haven't found good protection. Started using internal action wrenches. That is my opinion.
I use a wrap of painters tape on the action and so far no problems as long as I use the 1/4" bolt in the action's bottom hole. I'm thinking of trying a different barrel vice since I have problems with the oak blocks kinda disintegrating.
