When you thread a barrel for a muzzle brake the gunsmith will determine how much threading is required. Usually around 5/8 inch I think. The barrel length does not change. So, if a barrel is 20" it will still be 20" but with threads on the end.
If you want a 24" barrel then have it finished at 24" plus brake length. Installing a 2" long brake should really only add 1 3/4" or a little less to overall length.
