Where are all the AI skins?

I can't seem to find them anywhere. What has happened? Is AI not making them for separate purchase anymore? I'm looking for anything 2.0 short action, AE, AW or AICS. They are just non existent. I was able to find some LA versions, but no short actions.

I've called everyone I can think of that would have them. Tell me if I'm missing someone:

Hey Josh. Its been a while. Hows the East Coast treating you?

Here, yean we had snow and some ice. It was a mess. Had to take a pizza delivery guy to the hospital after he hit a patch and went down a flight of stairs.

Thanks for the heads up. Never done business with Impact, but maybe I'll give it a shot... :cringe:

Its the plastic stock side that covers the actual chassis. On the 1.0 and 1.5s, they are two pieces, a right side and a left side. On the 2.0s they are 4 pieces, a front right and front left, and then a rear right and rear left.

They come in three colors: Olive Drab, Flat Dark Earth, and Black. Previously, there was also a Desert Tan color.

The nicest part of them is that they are a really easy thing to replace (when in stock). But they seem to be as rare as hens teeth right now.

FWIW if you put something like this "I cant imagine that you would personally not be able to get a hold of these skins if you needed them for your own use" in an email to me I wouldn't reply either. Stacey is top notch and has helped me & others on numerous occasions. I would think twice before trying to name & shame someone as customer focussed as him and AI IMHO.

Good luck. I went down the same road recently, contacting all the usual vendors with each one saying to try the other or not even returning an email. With any hope I'll have a spare set of black 2.0 skins with my new custom when it arrives. They won't be for sale though as they are getting hydro-dipped.

Yes, questions directly to AINA can go unanswered too. Frustrating, yes, but I can guess like was mentioned above I bet they get so many questions asking about them it's easiest not to reply.......

I have looked and searched and exhausted all and any place I could for skins on a 1.5.. there are none stateside to my knowledge..

Please advise if someone finds a source.. Thanks

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sorry to hear your pains. They (the skins) are hard to get ahold of in any configuration. No other way to put it. Seems EVERY vendor has them on order and the quotes I'm getting are 6-8 weeks (AICS). But even then I think that is more of a guess than a solid time.


Everyone else:

Impact Guns had one set of Black 2.0 AW skins. You can probably guess who just ordered them.... (read: me) They were out of the greens and completely out of all 1.5 skins.

I know Johnathon really well at SRT and he goes to great lengths to help me get what I need/want. He has always been great to work with. But he is strapped for AI skins just like the rest of the vendors. They just aren't out there to be hand.

That being said, I'm having my AICS machined to accept the AW skins. This is not difficult with the M2008, but I seriously doubt it can be done with any other action.

I actually talked to TAC Pro this AM. They are supposed to call me back and let me know if they have any AW skins in stock. We will see if they actually call me back or not. I have my doubts after reading these posts.

I can tell you this much. AICS skins are nowhere. But if you have a M2008 in an AICS, you can make AW skins work. They too are hard to find, but not TOTALLY nonexistant like the AICS skins.

On the flip side, there seem to be plenty of LA AW skins out there. I don't know if they can be made to fit a LA M2008 or not. I'm only familiar with the SA side of the house.

BTW, I thought I'd mention that Michelle still works at Tac Pro. She is the one that will call me back about the AW skins. I will let you know if they have any available for purchase. My sneaking suspicion is no, but she is running over to the warehouse to look. MTF on the status...

Well, Impact just called me back and despite the fact that they thought they had AW skins they do not.

Waiting to hear back from TAC Pro.

Final word!

Impact does NOT have any SA skins, AW or AICS.

Tac Pro appears to be the place to go. They have AW short action 2.0 skins in all 3 colors.

The HAD 6 AICS 2.0 FDE Skins. They now have 4. If you want them, call and talk to Michelle. Tell her Ben sent you. As far as my knowledge, they are ONLY people that AICS skins in stock.

I am not an AI guy, don't have one and probably won't, either. Got too much invested in other shooting stuff.

I am just amazed, with the scarcity of the skins you all are looking for, that the after market stock makers haven't picked up on the apparent market.

No skins available from McMillan, Robertson, Manners...etc. Seems like someone is really missing the boat on a hungry market.

Just thinking out loud...Patent problems ???? Make 'em just different enough, mold in the camo, do something...

Update: Stacey just got in contact with me and is coming through with the set of skins that I have been after. He stated as I thought that he has has been extremely busy because of the last SHOT SHOW.

Closest color I could find to Aggie Maroon.

I know they won't last long. I had never thought about Tac Pro. I typically only use Hide vendors, but evidently they had a secret stash of them in a warehouse.


@ Paul,

I've always contemplated making a set of molds for just the front section of the skin. And using a fiberglass style shell to mold a better, less square, fore arm. I'm fairly certain it could be done and it would make it a much nicer positional shooting stock. Honestly, the stock is pretty uncomfortable in any unsupported position. 95% of the time I find myself in some sort of prone position. But you are right, it is surprising that no one has ever filled the gap with a better design. It's just not that comfortable unless its supported.

Where are you getting your info? (please don't say that you just looked it up on the internet).

I just talked to Johnathon on the 1st of March. They didn't have them in stock and didn't know when they would get them.
