Re: where to get pillars
People tell me that G10 pillar material is better for bonding and strength per weight, but I have not tried it:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/115/3561/=eaka30 I have tried brass, but it has dissimilar metal problems.
I have tried stainless, but it does not machine as nicely.
I am back to 1010 steel tubing, it is how I like to pillar:
https://www.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT2?PMPXNO=3006602&PMT4NO=0 I rough up the outside of the pillar to grip the epoxy ala Wagner:

I lightly chamfer the cut pillar.
I tap the pillar hole in the stock with a threading tap so the epoxy gets a grip.
I have reduced diameter action screws for pre compressing the pillar as the epoxy sets up.
I wrap the screw with masking tape to keep the screw centered in the pillar as the epoxy sets up.
For different types of rifles, I make a sketch of the pillar bedding job, so next time I do one, it will go faster.
I you have to make custom washers, label them well, so you don't have to make custom washers again... what a pain, cutting down washers.
Most people who install pillars do not understand the real purpose of pillars, so used rifles usually need to have the pillars drilled out and done right.
