i have a new rifle coming this weekend that i had built on a mcmillan a3-5 without flushcups. i have since ordered a tab sling with flushcups and ordered a set of female flushcups to install on this rifle. i am wondering where the best place is to install these. i was planning on mounting these on the left side so my bolt isnt digging into my back when walking. if so where should i mount them? also is it better to have the flushcups on the side or bottom when using the sling for shooting? should i order another set of flushcups and install 2 left side and 2 bottom?

If you plan on using a stock pack, install accordingly. The fore end location may be limited by your barrel channel, be careful. Also, an adjustable cheek of any sort can limit the feasible locations.
I prefer moving the swivel to the underside when shooting slung, but carrying with them on the left side of the rifle.
What are you doing for a bipod? If an Atlas, then consider using an Accushot BT 17 rail which has a flushcup built in.
Do you plan on using a monopod? If so, a rear stud is required.
Otherwise, provided there is no interference, I prefer the cups close to centerline of the left side of the stock.

I would mount it high if possible. I mounted one low on a McM A3 and the rifle always wanted to "roll" when carried diagonally by the sling as it was pulling up on the lower part of the stock.

GrovTec doesnt list the threaded cups on their site, but if you e-mail them, they do have it and you can order them that way. Just hate the fact that they dont accept credit cards.

The ones in that pic are not threaded, they just have a bedding groove on them, this is the one you want, part number is on the bag in the pic below

Anytime. Drill the hole a tad undersized so you can screw them in, but you still need to use bedding compound like steel bed or marinetex to lock them in place.

drill the hole a hair overszed, put some Steel Bed or Devcon on the cup and in the hole and insert it in.

You have to get into it a bit but with a sling attachment on the right side of your stock you don't have to twist your sling outwards a half turn to get it to lay with your arm/hand.
