I have a Colt Rail Gun that I would like to have suppressor night sights put on, threaded barrel installed and a trigger job on.

However, I am not sure who I should send this pistol to? Any advice or recommendations?

not sure if colt still has the custom shop open , for high quality upgrades Wilson Combat would be high on the list, a reputable smith in your area can do those upgrades but some are 6 month out.

My apologies for stating the obvious. Do not mean to be a smart ass. You should ask at one of the 1911 forums like 1911.com. It's like asking for barrel advice on this forum. You will get a ton of great information.

I can recommend both Dave Lauck of D and L Sports and Jim Stroh. Both excellent pistol smiths that specialize in the 1911.

Wilson will take forever, and I don't think they have threaded barrels. Ed Brown will do the work quickly and well, as long as the gun arrives to them in working condition. They won't fix a messed up gun that they didn't make, but they will do upgrades.

Try Cylinder & Slide; pretty much 1911 specialists.

Yo could go over to 1911addicts; it is a great place. I would suggest cylinder and slide or Business End Customs. But careful looking at the stuff BEC has done or you will end up going much father done the rabbit hole that is 1911 customs.

Defensive creations or Heirloom Precision depending on how much you want to fork over.

He just wants new sights, a threaded barrel and a trigger job, he doesn't seem to want his gun totally reworked. Of the really good one man shops, Garthwaite is the only one I can think of who likes doing piecemeal work, otherwise the semi customs do it very well.

Another vote for Jim Garthwaite. Along time 1911 specialist. Heirloom Precision produces works of art, doesn't do much piece work.

Ed brown does great work and very fast turn around. Alchemy custom does great work also I think they have a very long back log

I know some folks who have sent their factory 1911s to Nighthawk. The turn around has been quick and you get a semi-custom for one-third of the price. Let them tighten the fit up a bit and recoat it. You'll be happy you did.

I also second the recommendations to visit 1911forum and 1911addicts. Your checkbook may hate you though.

That is pretty simple stuff for a smith to do. I bet a good local guy could take care of that without a long wait. I would strongly recommend Jeff Abernathy in Mt Holly NC if you don't mind shipping it. Check out his work under the Tommy Guns website, or on Facebook.

Call Luke Volkmann of Volkmann Precision. He makes a great 1911 and does lots of refurbs as he only makes and sells 50 of his guns a year (something to do with excise tax), I've personally had a Colt that he reworked and it'll come back to you almost like one of his guns. Trust me, you won't be sorry. As others said, go to 1911forum and read about him.

Karl Sokol from chestnut mountain, he's a excellent pistol smith. Give him a call tell what you need the pistol for and he will set you straight.

Another for D&L sports. My dumb ass sold mine a few years ago and regret it every day

I've reread this thread and I wonder something. The OP asked for new sights, a barrel fitted, and a trigger job. All on a 1911. We've told him the names of the top custom smiths in the country. Is there not a local Smith that could do what is really extremely simple jobs on a 1911. It's a1911! We've been doing these a long time.

Jim Milks of Innovate Custom Guns. Used to work at Evolution Guns Works when they were still building guns and built dozens of national championship guns, including for the US Army Marksmanship Unit, Todd Jarrett, Doug Koenig, etc.
