What up...I'm sure this has been asked a dozen times, but through all my searching and researching I haven't found a good answer to my question.

I'm building a 6.5 in either (of course) 6.5x47, 6.5 Creed, or .260.

I have a 27" Bartlein 1:8" twist barrel. Wanting to go 20"-22" and shoot 130-140 Bergers.

What you think? What's your experiences??

Thanks for the info man! I've always been set on the .260, but had read alot about the x47 and Creed being good in short barrels.

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

I don't shoot 140s though Andrew McCourt just sent me a batch of 140gr VLDs to try.

I do have a 139gr load that is accurate I don't recall the FPS without looking it up, maybe 2780? But I can't remember for sure. That or 2750...

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

Either way those are great numbers for a tac/hunting rig. Wanting to do a lighter rifle...A1-3, 22" RV barrel, etc. Outta be about right in .260!

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

Mine should be a bartlien 1/8 running a Gap Chamber.

I ran it up to 43.5gr H4350 on the 139 scenars, but there was a ever slight resistance on the bolt throw.

42.5gr puts the 139 right about 2715fps.

Accuracy nodes I saw were 42.5, 43, and 43.5

In my 6.5x47 Lapua with a 21" Lilja 8 twist barrel, I'm getting 2875 or so with 129 SST's. The Lapua seems to be very efficient in shorter barrels. I will be barreling up the below pictured receiver with a 21" 8 twist Rock Rem Varmint contour for my next 'tactical' match rifle.

KPK...
Ill have my 6.5x47 with a 22" barrel finished in 5wks.....we will compare. I'll be shooting the 130 VLD's.

Ive spent hours reading pages and pages of threads over the whole 260 vs X47 vs Creed. Its splitting frog hairs in the end.
Ive got 3 other rifles...all in 6.5x47 and there isnt enough difference between the two to make me want to buy new dies and brass for the 260. Im heavily invested in the x47 caliber, component wise.

I doubt either of us are good enough to shoot the difference between the two.

Well I know I won't be good enough, lol! We'll definitly have to test them out. Might as well go .260 and see how it goes. Just need to find a stock for the RSR. I'm anal and want it to have the right inlet, it's annoying...

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

The factory 140gn Creedmoor loads chrono'd @ 2641 avg out of my 18.5" Savage test rifle I just put together. I have everything minus an action to send off for a build, but I'm still struggling with the the barrel length as well. want a 20", but the voice of reason keeps say'n 22".

KPK,
260, bartlein 22.5" barrel
nosler brass (new)
wolf LR primer
45.9 gr h4350
oal 2.880
2990 average checked @ 65-70 degrees
with a oehler 35p
pressure signs were .7-1.0 grains more
this load works well in my rifle but you should work up to
it as 45.9 could be nuclear in yours
good luck

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

Im running a 6.5x47 Lapua with 123 Scenars out of a 24inch Bartlein Barrel at 3050fps avg with RL15 and no pressure signs.Half MOA at 1000 allday!I have shot plenty of 260s and 6.5 Creedmoors.Personally I think the 6.5x47 Lapuas got em beat!

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

I'm running a 6.5X47L in a Bartlien 8.25 twist barrel. My barrel is 26.75" though. I have found 2810 fps to 2830 fps produces sub 0.5 MOA (usually mid .3's but I believe the gun is better than that. I'm not!) I run Berger 130 and 140 gr VLD with same result.
Have only tested in matches to 600 yds. Have not taken to 1000 yds yet.

Using H4350 and CCI 450 small rifle magnum primers the 130's require 40.0 grains of powder and the 140's require 41.4 grains of powder. Bullet seating is set to -0.005" (.005 off lands)

Bore is moly coated as well as all bullets. Chamber is a Rumble Wepnz match spec.

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

Thank you for the load data for you 260. I was thinking of trying the 130 vld's next. The 140 vld's seem to shoot well out of my rifle. I am still in the learning stage with my 260 so every little bit helps.

Re: Which 6.5 with a 20"-22" Barrel??

I totally forgot about this thread. Thanks for the info guys.

If anyone has any more input let me know.

Here's what I got so far!

Yep the top is a 7mm SAUM at 26" and the bottom is the unfinished 6.5. Just got the barrel sitting there for a pic, it's 27" right there.
