I'm wondering which base best suits what I will do and need. I have a Remington 5R .308 RH that I will use for hunting(0-400yrds) and shooting steel out to 1000yrds. I would like to have a steel base with a 20-25moa cant. I really like US Optics, but I'm well aware of the others like Badger, Seekins, and the list goes on. Does anyone have any pics of these on their 5R's, or can tell me what worked for them through trial and error; if any? Should I get my scope first and then decide on a base and rings? Thanks for the input.

I'm only speaking about bases right now. Poor word usage on my part, I'm well aware that rings come in different sizes.

well the one opinion I can give is to make sure you pick out the scope first because not all rings/scopes are the same dimensions, and as far as picking out a base goes there are plenty of choices which mostly boil down to personal preference/budget

I think any of the "high end" bases will be good, depending on your action you may have to bed the base (I did). As far as pictures go here's mine w/ a USO base, it really did start out as a 5r :)

Re: Which base on 5R

I have never ever bedded any rings or bases on any of my own or my friends rifles. Don't really see the point.

As for scope bases. I have only used EGW and NightForce bases. The NF was $115 and really does nothing that the $40 EGW does. I know about 10 rifles (me and friends) with EGW bases and have not one of them have problems.

When it comes to a base, it's worth considering a Near base. You can get them in stainless finish to match your factory 5R, or in Nitrated black finish. You can order them direct from Richard Near in Canada, or order one from Brownells.

The Near base is a work of art, and they have a recoil lug built into them.

Murphy Precision is another quality base, and they will custom make it to your needs or requirements.

I have the 20MOA BO base and BO 1.125" high 30mm rings and have not had to adjust my zero in over a year on my 5R. I do raise the AICS cheek piece a bit to get up to the scope.

Near or Murphy. You'll never look back, never regret it and never say, "I should have......"

There are benefits to bedding your base, especially if your receiver isn't perfectly true - and most production receivers aren't perfect. Any stress you can remove from the system makes life easier on your scope and for a more accurate system.
