Which bipod should I use

Re: Which bipod should I use

With only that info I will give my default answer of the Harris BRM-S, which is the 6-9" height with notched legs and swivel. Add a KMW Pod Loc on there too. I use that bipod on all my rifles.

Re: Which bipod should I use

+1 more for the Harris BRM-S 6" to 9". I would definitely add the pod claws from Phenix Tactical. I personally like the Pod lock but if you do like I did and torque it too much you can break the swivel mechanism it may void the lifetime warranty. Harris was good to me and fixed it under warranty. But said if I did it again it would not be covered since the Pod Lock is not recommended by Harris. JAA

Re: Which bipod should I use

Tighten the Pod Loc until it's stiff and you can move the rifle with some pressure and then leave it alone. No need to crank down on it.

Re: Which bipod should I use

For me, it goes:

Bolt action rifles
6-9 Harris BR-S notched leg, KMW podloc

Semi-autos
Atlas.

The reason I don't use atlas on bolt actions most of the time is because I can't adjust the tension on the swivel from behind the gun due to it having a stiff rotational base. Also, I don't really use swivel much on movers for my AR, I turn the whole gun.

Edit: I mean having a stiff rotational base as opposed to something I can easily grab, which is the entire purpose of the Podloc.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I don't like the Harris. I find it very hard to load. I would prefer an AI spigot mount and an AI bipod or an Atlas- the free cant is something you get used to in a hurry, and not an issue.

Re: Which bipod should I use

Both are excellent bipods, I had my last S-BRM for 3 years and made the switch over to one of Kaseys Atlas V7's last year.

Benefits of the Harris S-BRM 6-9":
* You can upgrade the feet with Phoenix Tactical pod claws.
* Install a Pod-Loc which will basically help you tighten the system up to the point where its almost locked (swivel wise side to side) when shooting on uneven and sloped ground.
* Your sling can attach to the bipod itself.
* Spring loaded legs with notches that will stop at set lengths easily deployed with one hand.
* Cheaper

Benefits of the ATLAS:
* Pans from side to side, good for moving targets.
* Has 4 leg positions available (V7) Forward, 45 forward, Vertical and Rearward.
* Legs extend easily with one hand if you rock the rifle onto the other leg, they will extend to the height required at your own speed, not spring loaded.
* You can add longer leg lenghts after your initial purchase, unlike the fixed length Harris bipods.
* You can tension the bipod down with a rotating disc centralised between the two legs.

Both are excellent bipods, make an informed decision and do it right the first time. Some days I miss my Harris but only rarely.

Put just about any bipod you want on an AI rifle. No adaptors or rifle studs needed. Period.

Thanks </div></div>Thanks, but I was responding to the original posters post, and he indicated this is going on a bell and carlson stock, not an AI.

I personally have an AIAW, I had a Harris, didn't like it, and now have an AI factory on it with an Atlas on the way, to try it out. I recommended using an AI spigot on his rifle, because I like the cant. Your product looks nice, by the way, just isn't of much use to me personally because the bipods I have are already setup for the spigot.

Re: Which bipod should I use

Not a Harris.

I have 2 and would not buy another. It is a bit finiky to load properly. It can be done but why make things harder with the wrong kit. You can change the feet but better off with a better bipod design i.e. the Atlas

If you must buy a cheap copy

I have two and would have no problem buying another. No problem loading it either weather on concrete, grass, rock, etc. No feet or pod locks either.

I haven't gotten an Atlas yet, but I am sure they will work fine.

Don't get a cheap imitation Harris. I have yet to see one that compares to the original.

If you go Harris, make sure you get the notched leg swivel model. It will make your life much easier.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I have a Harris as well, 9-13 swivel; usually shoot off bags but it works good for me when i use it. I saw a GG&G at the last gun show and liked it. If i had seen this bipod before i purchased my harris i might have held out for a little longer and gone with the GG&G.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I don't have any experiance with an Atlas but my Harris works solid. I've never had any issues with it. I would suggest buying a Harris for now and if it does not fit your need than you can always sell it here on the hide and buy an Atlas.. Theres always someone on here looking to get a Harris bipod.

Re: Which bipod should I use

With the harris and the B&C stock if you have the flat foreend make sure you get the Harris #9 adapter for flat forend stocks manu# H-9. This allows the harris to work correctly on those flat forends. They were designed to go on a fore end with slight curvature. I have a non-swivel 6-9 without leg notches. I was able to get it from a friend for $20 when he upgraded. My next Harris will be a 6-9", leg notched with the swivel. Put I do plan on getting an Atlas in the future. I just dont know when that nice of bipod will be in the cards for me. Do not buy a Harris knock off they wont last.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I looked like a little kid playing with toys at Wal-Mart the last time I went to Cabela's. I opened up the Harris, and two other copy cats in both the swivel and non-swivel models of various sizes. Basically, I had 6-10 bipods out at any given time and was pulling the legs out, locking them, releasing them, etc...

I decided on the Harris Swivel 6-9. Can't remember the model number but I'm sure somebody will clarify it. My reasons for choosing it were based on one knock off being a lot heavier which made it feel tougher, but the swivel and legs felt cheap and flimsy. It came in a gray package. It was also significantly wider. The other green package was just flimsy all over. The parts where it was connected looked like they would last around 100 rounds at the range and then come apart. Oh and the springs were weak and I could accidentally flip a leg up without trying.

I like it a lot and haven't added a pod lock or new feet to it. I might add feet though in the future if the stock ones get worn.

I have no experience with the Atlas or others.

Depends on which B&C Stock.

The BRM-S fits on the Light Tactical just fine without any adapter. I also have not had any problem with them on a Badger Stabilizer forend.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I have both a Harris BRM-S 6-9" with a KMW pod-lok and an Atlas. Both a really fine pieces of equipment; don't bother with anything else.

I bought the Atlas after using the Harris for years, and thought I was buying up. At the time I figured the Harris would end up gathering dust, but it hasn't. I have the Atlas set up with a LaRue lever, so it gets used on rifles that have a pic rail mounted, and the Harris goes on anything with just a sling stud up front. And both work just fine.

Heed the pork eater.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I really like the Atlas - I have one and another on order.

I just prefer the feel of the Atlas over the Harris bipods I've used/owned. It seems better made, easier and more flexible to use, less "clunky" and with a wide range of options.

The 45 degree leg capability is great.

I can use on either my rail guns or, quickly change to work with the spigot mount to my AW.

My other bipod is an AI style PH - not everyone's cup of tea....but I like it.

I will probably be putting an Atlas on the AI when I recover from the initial sticker shock. I just figure if I have a spigot, might as well use it. </div></div>

I'm with you. I thought briefly about putting a Harris on my AI, but then I tried an Atlas with the spigot mount and then there was NO WAY in the world I was ever going back to a Harris.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I agree with the Atlas. I loved my Harris until I picked up an Atlas and I can't even consider going back. I have another on order that should be to me on Monday or Tuesday. I put one on my SPR and the one on the way is for my 700.

Re: Which bipod should I use

I will give a vote for the Atlas....they are great bipods. My wife who is new to shooting and had the Harris 6-9 till her Atlas came in, when she got behind the rifle (mind you this is a woman who is new to LR shooting) she said that the Atlas was leaps and bounds better than the Harris. YMMV
