Hey guys, I'll will be sending my rifle to a smith by way of UPS. Its probably the only time I will use this hard case as I like soft cases for range trips.

What do you guys recommend to ship my rifle in. Should I just bite the bullet and buy a Pelican

Re: Which case for shipping

I used an old rifle box and reconfigured the packing material a bit to fit a different rifle. Definitely take out the bolt, and remove the trigger group if you are just shipping the action.

Re: Which case for shipping

I'd buy that natchez case, pull out bolt, bubble wrap bolt and rifle, put them in case, with additional shipping info in case, put in box. Ship. Remember to insure for full retail replacement value.

Re: Which case for shipping

Thanks for all the info, I'm to the point now thinking of all the money I've spent " why get cheap now " might as well get the Pelican and know it will make it without a scratch

Re: Which case for shipping

Well, you sure can't go wrong having a Pelican case around when you need it. I use mine for airline travel, and the only worry I have is somebody stealing it.
Keep in mind the Pelican will add about 26 pounds to your shipping costs.

WOW 26 pounds....... Maybe I'll just get a Plano hard case. Should be fine inside a cardboard box full of the little foam things.......right ?

Re: Which case for shipping

It's what GAP sends all their rifles out in so I would say it's fine. They use the the box the case comes in and wraps the bolt, action and muzzle with bubble wrap. Same way I ship rifles in for rebarrels or other work.

Oh shit..... If its good enough for GAP its good enough for me... Thanks for the info...Rob01

Re: Which case for shipping

That's why I recommended the one from Natchez. My GAP rifle came in one a couple of months ago.

Re: Which case for shipping

I usually go down to Sportsmans Whorehouse and buy the cheapest case I can and ask them for a box that will fit it . I have shipped a bunch of guns this way without any problems .

Re: Which case for shipping

I always include a copy of the shipping information inside the case attached to the firearm. I do this so that in the unlikely event that the shipping label or outside box is damaged, my address can still be located.

Always. And I use whatever case I have empty at the time. Pelican, Storm, or el-cheapo brand. As long as the gun is secure and the case isn't dropped from a plane, it'll be fine.
