Which d/m bottom metal?

A

Having little experience of a wide variety of aftermarket bottom metal I thought I would cast my net into the murky waters of the hide,,,,

Which one do you use and why?

Badger
Seekins
Surgeon
HS
KMW
Any others I have missed.

Looking to use just such a system for my next build. Any pointers or advice would be appreciated.

Regards

G

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

You missed CDI Precision, which is what I ended up using. Work's great and the price is right. I was able to try someones rifle at my range that had a Surgeon bottom metal, and all I have to say is WOW. If I were to do it again I would spend the extra cash on the surgeon. Don't get me wrong though the CDI is a great piece as well.

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

Good info, thank you. What makes the Surgeon product special. Fit, finish, non rattly magazines etc?

Thanks

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

There is also Wyatt's but I must be the only one who ever used one because you never hear about them. I chose the Wyatt's because it was a straight drop-in to a B&C stock and you could go back to the factory bottom metal / drop-bottom magazine since no inletting is required.

When I mounted the Wyatt's on my McMillan A-5 I did have to do a tiny bit of sanding for it to fit, and I can also use the factory bottom metal again if I want to in this stock also. You do have to file down the front take-down bolt a hair for B&C stocks, it fit my HS Precession 700P stock with no modifications whatsoever. You do have to use the Wyatt's magazine though, no AI's.

Now that I have used the DBM I don't think I will ever go back to the factory setup so that kind of defeats that selling point.

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

I would choose between the APA or Surgeon

both have excellent mag releases, the apa is a little slicker and doenst have any extra metal sticking down

i have or still run seekins, hs, badger.

Seekins is great stuff, but availibity can be an issue and he runs his own mags so again getting replacements "can" be an issue

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

I've run hs, seekins, badger, and surgeon. My favorite is the surgeon. I prefer the mag release on it. All are good options just depends on what you like.

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

Not sure if your still shopping around but I just got a DBM for my remington 700 from a canadian company called vbullprecision. It has a unique feature that allows you to lockout the mag so that you dont accidently eject the mag if you are hunting or on the move. If anything its worth a look. Snipers Hide

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

I don't have one on my rifle but if I did I think I'd either go with Seekins AI DBM for commonality with the AR or APA just because of thier slick design.

I really don't like the lever sticking down on most of the other setups. The Surgeon DBM seems to have taken care of that issue as well.

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

i like seekins, for magnums like the .338 you get great oal.
i also like the mag release on the side of the trigger guard not hanging down. not that that is a bad thing just what i like.
cost is also fair.

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

If on a budget, CDI is the way to go. If money isn't a the big issue, surgeon is hard to beat. I went with CDI for my rifle. My next build will deffinately have the surgeon.

Re: Which d/m bottom metal?

atreeman,

Thank you for including KMW in your list of people to check out but my DBM will not be a very good candidate for your project.

The KMW DBM system was designed at the same time as the SENTINEL and M.A.C.S. stocks. It was made specifically to work with those two stocks, neither of which have conventional contours on the bottom. Because of this, my DBM system has extra material extensions behind the triggerguard to eliminate any gap between the TG and stock. The entire front of the DBM is also built up to coincide with those two stocks. So, even though I am very, very happy with the DBM system, it would be totally out of place and not very pleasant to look at when installed on a conventional stock.

I do have experience with the Surgeon DBM and that is the product that I install on all A-series and Win Marksman stocks. It shares some of the same features as my own DBM, has all edges chamfered and offers the most control for the AICS and AW mags with the exception of the AICS itself.

So thanks but we can't play on this one.

Have a safe week.
