I was thinking of something like a Millet DMS, I have the chance to buy an older 1.5-5 Falcon Menace but can’t seem to find much about them, anyone here use one? What other options do I have and trying to keep the price with mount under $600 any info would be much appreciated!
Has anyone had any luck mounting these with the aimpoint QD single peice mount?

It depends on what your primary use is with the rifle. I use the Burris XTR 1-4 scope with the 5.56 reticle. I can make hits all the way out to 500-600 yards using the reticle with my M4. I personally don't like the QD rings or bases. But if you have the BUIS and might need them, then the QD would be alright.

I have a millet dms in a larue spr-e mount. The millet has a lot of eye relief so to get comfortable I need even a more extended mount. I would have liked to get the Burris but did not have the money at the time. I bought the scope on sale for 200 and the mount used for around 180. I have this set up on my ar22 and is great for the range. The red can wash out on bright days however. I would buy the scope again for my purposes.

Main use is going to be 3 gun but I want to be able to remove the scope and use the BUIS. I have Larue mounts on my other ARs great setup. I was trying to go as light weight as possible so I was wondering if anyone has used the single Aimpoint mount with the Millet or likewise? Thanks for the feedback so far!

A friend of mine went with a Larue Stealth and put the Leupold 3-9 Mark AR on it. They also make a 1.5 to 4. I have no experience with the 1.5 though.

Reading is fundamental. Original post says $600 w/mount.

I have the millett, and use it for 3gun also. It's a great scope for the money, but the big drawback is size/weight.

The glass and reticle are worth the money. I have no trouble ringing steel to 400y (10") and sometimes 500y with crappy ammo and a 16" barrel.

I have mine on a uber lightweight AR and it's just way to big/heavy. Keep in mind that for the last 3 years I competed in the iron sights division, so I'm not used to the weight of a scope at all on my 3gun AR, but several fellow shooters have remarked the same. It seems to throw the balance off on my little AR.

I know a couple other guys that had the millett on their guns and they are fine, but theirs were 18-20" guns and were generally quite heavier. Both have upgraded to new, higher priced, scopes and are happy. They were generally happy with the Millett, just managed to scrape up the cash for new glass.

In your price range I think you might be able to afford a little better scope for your needs. I'm not trying to discourage you from buying the Millett, it's a great scoppe for the money. $600 is a decent budget but might be just out of the range of some really good glass.

I have my millett mounted in a burris AR PEPR mount:

which so far is fine..but I've only shot 2 matches with it. You might be able to save a little money on your mount and spend it on the glass. I'd rather skimp on the mount and upgrade later than do the same on your optics.

    Best of luck.

My bad, I swear I didn't see the amount in the op.

I had three rifles that needed similar optics and I chose the Millett. Like montana3gunner said you can't beat them for the price but they are heavy. Illumination isn't bright enough either IMO. On my AR I used an American Defense ReconX mount and am pleased with it.

The Burris XTR is a nice choice. There was one listed a day or so ago in the optics FS section. Looked through a buddy's Trijicon 1-4 and really liked it but can't remember a model number. IIRC it was around $600.

The price range makes it hard, but if you can go a little more the Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x SPR works good, the IOR 3x25 has great glass and always seems to be in focus, http://www.valdada.com/product/40e3b604-7044-4532-b71d-93037f0e8166.aspx Their new "Pitbull" is very nice but twice what you want to spend. Another nice AR scope is the Elcan OS 3x, http://swfa.com/Elcan-SpecterOS-Optical-Sights-C82.aspx It has one of the best retical's I'v ever seen for all around AR work. Of course there is always Trijicon (I like the TA01) And if you want the best, I would say USO 1.5-6x but you'll pay for it. ($1500 - $2000) The rest I spoke of are around $700 - $900+ but in the long run it's well worth the extra money. If you don't have alot to spend right now, you could buy a IOR reddot for aprox. $150 to get you by, and save some more money to get the scope you really want. The IOR reddot has elev. & wind. knobs and would be a great sight to have around anyway. Good luck with your choice.

+1 on the Leupold 1.5-5 SPR. Great scope for your purpose.

+ 1 on the Luepy mark 4 1.5X5. I love this optic. Sometimes you can find one of these combined with a Larue quick release mount for a resonable price. Spend your money on good optics even if you have to wait.. Because if you don't you will seldomly be satisfied .... Also, a NF or a US optic version would do the trick but will cost alittle more. Just my opinion.. Good luck with your choices....SmokeRolls
