Hey everyone, I'm new here so bear with me. I am in Afghanistan right now trying to fight the ground war and build a new "deer" rifle at the same time. I want a Rem M700, but I'm not sure which one to buy. I am looking at the XCR Tactical Long Range, but I want to put a thumbhole stock on it. Second, I looked at the Sendero, but don't know if it is as accurate. Next, I looked at the Varmint Model with a bull barrel. I will be purchasing in .300 WIN MAG, no matter what model I buy more than likely. Please let me know if the Sendero or tactical or varmint shoots well out to 800 meters. I do not want to spend over 1200 on the gun to start with. This does not include glass or stock. Thanks guys.

Re: Which M700 do I buy?

Seems like your best option is the Sendero of what you listed. They are shooters. I have seen a couple and only 1 of them was not and Remington fixed the issue. I have been running one in 300 RUM for a little while now and am very happy with it. You should also consider the 5R. Remington has a couple of options for you to look at if you want a 300WM.

PSS - chrome moly
Sendero - stainless, fluted barrel
XCR - chrome moly
5R - stainless, 5R rifling

Why not the Sendero with a thumbhole? With hand loads it's pretty hard to beat.

Sorry for the crappy pic but it's a sendero in a McMillan Lazzeroni.

If your upgrading the stock I would just go with whatever finish, and or barrel type you like. Unless something is wrong with the gun itself, remington actions and barrels shoot fine. Its the flex or contact points in the lower end stocks that lets them down.

If your not going to change the stock i would go with something that has no flex, so either a kevlar or wood type stock so either a Police, LTR, or sendero... I think the 5R has a good stock as well but im not 100% on that.

Re: Which M700 do I buy?

Sir,
Thank you for your service.
The short action version of the Sendero is called the VSSF. Varmint synthetic Stainless fluted. I have had several of them in 22-250. All shot like top of the line custom rifles. I will not quote groups here as I do not have pics, but I am amazed by them. Have not shot them in other cals. When I do shoot mine, they make me wonder why I spend 5000 + on customs. I do find that accuracy tends to fall off beyond 500 yards but attribute that to the 14 twist .22 cal barrels. I am sure many other Rems will be as good, but for me I would try the VSSF or Sendero.
Good Luck.
