This is the IOR 2-12x36 35mm SPARTAN SFP TACTICAL .308 BDC w/MP-8 Dot or CQB ILLUM. RETICLE

Or this one Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32 Zero Stop

I need something for my Scar 17s

Which should I go with? I will be putting a Trijicon RMr at the 1 o'clock position for CQ.

Any help would be great. I only have Internet to go off of since no stores carry these.

Thanks

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

I have the IOR 1.5-8X cqb scope and love it. The glass is very high quality though the scope is a bit heavy..

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

I recently had this quandary myself. I ended up stepping up to the USO 1.8-10. I have had a NF and it was good but for the price would rather have a USO.

What did you pay for that USO? I want to be able to see targets at 100 yards and further with no problem. Is 10x enough or would I be better with the 12x of the IOR?

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

You couldn't go wrong with either scope that you mentioned. The older I get...the more my eyes like the German glass...so for me personally...I'd be leaning slightly towards the IOR. But...both scopes are extremely solid choices and would serve you well for years to come.

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

It sounds like most people love there NF and there IOR. I really appreciate everyone chiming in. I just want to get the right one since I will be spending 1500-2000 on something. Do you think 12X is that much stronger than a 10x???

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

12x will give you a slight edge at 1000yds, I shoot a lot with a fixed 10x and 12 would be nice at 900 and 1000.

I'm actually in the same boat as you are with an SPR type rifle I'm building. I have put some thought into the IORs as I have a 3-18 on abolt gun, love the glass, love the reticle, but the ones above all are BDC knobs with I hate, additionally they are cammed for 308, and mine is 223.

of the choices you mentioned, I'd lean NF simply to avoid the BDC, but I have to say the 1-6 offering from SWFA is making me wait on a final decision.

Yes. I see that with the IOR but it will be going on a Scar 17s which is .308. I know I don't want a 1-6 since that wouldn't give me the zoom I am looking for to see the target. But I will take a look at it. Is it on there website?

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

It (BDC) can be a big deal depending on many things like DA, scope height, type of bullet, velocity, distance, etc. Your dope could be off considerably or right on.

I can comment on the NF 2.5-10. It's lightweight, durable, reliable, has great glass, tracks well, great illume system and has a zero stop. So far I like SFP scopes for a close to medium range optic better than a FFP. There's one thing I don't like about the NF, there's no indicating marks on the turret stem to show how many revs your on.

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

I understand what you are saying. I do want a zero stop. Plus most my shooting will be 100-200 yards. I just want to be able to see my target with no problems.

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

I am shooting a 2.5-10x42 ffp IOR scope on my 16" POF and I really wish I had a little more magnification. This weekend shooting it at 800 yards heavy mirage my 66% IPSC target was pretty much completely washed out, plus also lacks paralax adjutment. While my 3.5-18x50 IOR on my .308 bolt gun was making hits at 1000 yards same conditions.

Guess it really depends how far out you plan on shooting, I really like the 2.5-10x42 for anything under 600. I plan on swapping it out for an IOR 3-18x42 soon.

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

The IOR bdc was pretty close to my actual dope though with my 223 wylde AR at 600 yards I'm about 1 moa low. To fix this I adjust on the turret to fine tune which works out pretty good. I wouldn't let the bdc be the deciding factor here..

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

Regularly shooting at 100-200 and plinking away at greater distances you could get a super sniper 3-9 FFP and be happy too for 600$.

I have a couple 2.5-10 IORs and I had a 3-18. For inside 600 the 2.5-10 is great but past that I would want the 3-18 for the parallax adjustment and greater magnification HOWEVER with the 3-18 you also get another half or pounds of weight and you will notice it.

So for a carbine all around use type scope you can't go wrong with a 3-9 type optic (all the ones that have been suggested are great) but if you want to target shoot at longer ranges you will want more magnification and a parallax adjustment.

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

I've had all three, along with the Leupold, and I thought that the USO and the IOR both had a bit of fisheye like characteristics to the glass, that the NF didn't have. I'm currently running the USO because of the EREK knob and the retical. The IOR was nice and clear, but I thought that the magnification adjustment got gummy and hard to adjust after some time - not sure why. I think the NF is the easiest on the eyes (not necessarily clearest), but the USO has the best features overall.

My 2 cents.

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

Mostly 100 yards since that's all my range has. There is a range about 1 hour away that is 200 yards. I live in Florida. Not a lot in the Panhandle. I am in Pensacola.

Re: Which one IOR or NightForce?

I switched to FFP Mil/Mil years ago on most of my scopes. The transition was easy.

10 clicks is 1 mil, 23 clicks is 2.3 mils. It can't get any easier. 10ths are simpler than 1/8ths or 1/4ers.

Range finders and ballistic programs have made life even easier.

There is plenty of room around a 1" dot at 100Y with a my 2.5-10. 200Y with a 1" dot might be iffy, I can't remember.

To wet your whistle some here's a pic of my "one off" 2.5-10x24 with a anodized finish from the factory which I am super proud of

It is a MOA version with their LV reticle. I have the load and sightin distance tuned perfectly for the scopes reticle out to 600Y. I hardly dial anymore with it.
