Of those there is a clear winner....the Night Force. Also where are you finding one under 1K? While the SS is a good entry scope, and the Falcon is decent....its kind of a slap to NF to lump it in with those 2

Re: Which one?

military and law enforcement discount, one of the civilian officers that i work with has another job at one of the gun shops in the area, and they just got in some s&b and nf. not any of the high end ones, but some that with the discount/bargain that i could get the same thing elsewhere and get the same price, they knock more off for us so they get the business. we get a great deal and they get money in their coffers. so i will end up with a s&b, or nf for about 750-900, or i can get the ss or fm off of gunbroker for just a little cheaper

This portion of the post makes me ALMOST not want to waste my time saying "Nightforce hands down" as the poster is a little loopy. A S&B or Nightforce for $750-$900 and he is asking if he should pass that up and get a SS for "a little cheaper" on gunbroker? lol. I dont think he actually has a clue what he can get a NF or S&B for, and posted this question without ANY research on his part. Lol. Do people just not know how to use Google, or really any search engine online. We have a ENORMOUS wealth of knowledge at out fingertips and with a few quick taps on a keyboard, can search hundreds if not thousands of reviews, comaprisons and product descriptions with the most simple search phrase. It truely astounds me that more people dont do their own investigation, but would rather just throw stupid questions like "SS, FM, or NF?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!

*this concludes my rant for this evening*

Re: Which one?

FFHouge i agree with you, ive never seen anywhere that someone can get a new NF or SB for that money, if you are getting a deal like that i can assure you that its not the scopes you are thinking of.

Re: Which one?

Does military really get that much discount? I'm wondering because I am military and I need a scope for the AR10 I just finished building. I would love a NF scope but I will really have work hard at saving for it

Re: Which one?

Everyone is freely giving advice, which is great, but the OP still hasn't said what kind of shooting he wants it for or what he wants to achieve with the scope. So here's one for you guys: Simmons, Hensoldt, or Procter and Gamble? Which one should I get?

Re: Which one?

like i said, one of the guys works at the shop they give us a le AND military discount, as well as go a little lower than someone else can get it for. a few times we end up with stuff at the SHOPS original price (cant expect them to go any lower than they paid)

and for ffhogue, thank you for being condecending, i appreciate your adult opinion. well, i would have had you not talked to me like a backwards fu@&ing child. if you had paid attention i am an active duty marine, so i dont have exorbitant amounts of money to build my rifle. if that means getting a not quite as good scope for a little cheaper, and using that extra money for other things, ie ammo, stock, weather station, shooting mat (i am using an issue iso mat) or good case, than i would say that it warrants looking into. as a matter of fact, i DID compare you fu@&ing ass hat. so, next time you decide to rant, take your shit elsewhere, bitch. or, since you are an expert and seem to want everyone to have high end gear, go out, buy me the shit i want, and send it to me. i am not above getting free gear. in fact, if anyone knows how i can get "sponsored" or something to that effect, please let me know, i will wear anyones hats or shirts or put stickers all over my truck if it means i can get a hook-up.

Re: Which one?

Save your money and get a NightForce. Thre are some very good deals on LNIB scopes in the Optics For sale section. You won't be sorry. the NF 5.5-22X56 NXS or the 8-32X56 NXS come to mind.

Re: Which one?

Handled very poorly, Marine...

The first thing you need to do is let us know what you want to do with the scope. That will let us tell you what specs to look for in a scope.

Re: Which one?

Sounds like you're thinking things through pretty well. Dont let folks rile you. NF's are hard to beat but if they're not in your price range (like they're not in mine) then there are a number of great scopes for around the $500 mark that can be lifetime performers. There are quite a few people here who are very knowledgable on optics and unbiased and will give it to ya straight. Be patient, you'll figure out who they are. Good luck and good shootin.

okie

Re: Which one?

shooting from 100-1k, maybe more sometime further down the road, but for now been to the 6 a couple times, 8 once (could hardly see) and 1k (couldnt see so i didnt shoot only observed the other shooters)

thank you for all those with constructive comments

Re: Which one?

Get the best you can afford. I picked up a Sightron SIII and I love it. I couldnt afford the NF that I would love to have right now. But I am saving up for one in the future.

Re: Which one?

I would recomend at least 12x on the max mag. Idealy, a variable will fit the bill too (hunting).

What are your thoughts on FFP?

All these could have a bearing on what scopes will work and which should be eliminated from consideration. There are indeed very capable scopes in all price ranges.

Figure out exactly what you need and look at scopes that meet those requirements.

Bottom line, if you can get a NF for only a little more than a lower end optic, go for it. Just make sure that it meets your specs or it is not a bargain.

Re: Which one?

I have a Falcon Menace 4-14 with the enhanced mil-dot. It is a very good scope.
The turrets are rather mushy feeling. I carefully removed the three very small set screws, sprayed the inside of the turret with silicone lube (airsoft gun lube)and wiped it out, then speayed a light coating for lubricant, sprayed the oring with the same stuff, wiped off the excess grease, reapplied the lube. Now I have well defined clicks, both audible and tactile.

I used the scope in a one week FBI basic sniper/observer class. It worked very well.
For 400 dollars, they are almost impossible to beat, SWFA sells them now.
