Rifle Scopes Which Premier scope. for comp gun to 1000 yards.

I am about a month away from ordering a Premier Heritage scope for a .243 comp gun. I notice that Rob01 always uses 5-25 power, but some other posters say 15x is enough power.

The PH 5-25 is 3" longer than their smaller scope. I am leaning toward the 5-25, but the size of the thing is making me think twice. What do most of you like to use? Any recommendations?

Both scopes cost about the same. I am pretty sure I will be sticking with Premier brand.

If price is about the same, buy the one with the higher resale value (percentage of original cost).

5-25. There will be more than one instance you wish you had higher than 15x.

I haven't had any problems hitting at 1k with my 3-15. However if I had to do it over again I would probably get the 5-25. If you need to dial down with the 5-25 you could, but the reticle would be pretty small at 10x. The only time more magnification would have been nice was on some smalltargets. The mirage was pretty heavy on the targets and extra magnification wouldn't have helped a whole lot for that.

Either way you can't go wrong but I would get the 5-25. If you don't like it you could sell it for the price of the 3-15 and only be out a few hundred bucks.

I agree. I usually only shoot on 10 or 12 power. But sometimes, I will run up the magnification to help identify the target then back it back down before I fire. I would go with the 5-25, but I am a weird-o.

I have both. 3-15 is fine out to 1000, even 1200, though I would want a little more if the distance requirement increased.

It's a matter of personal preference. Both work well at distances up to 1000 yards (and beyond). One thing, you can always dial back the 25 to 15. Only downside is it is the 25 is larger (and it IS large).

Of the two, 5-25 GenIIXR. I had one and it was a pretty good scope, nice retical.

Your location says NorCal doesn't it? The PR is pretty much a given......

A lot of our guys are rolling PR 5-25s ... some with 3-15s but not many ...

I run the 5-25. I don't like to run any scope at the highest mag. This model gives more options (I find myself shooting at 15 to 18 a lot). The GenIIXR works better in the 5-25 also. I can use the full reticle down to about 7x. Anything lower than that, I am close enough that I don't need mils.

I have yet to be in a situation that I needed to be lower than 5x.

All these replies make sense to me, and I will go with the 5-25.

If Premier had a 4-24, that was compact, that would be even better.

For the most part I recommend a 5-25x56mm PRH. The 3-15x are great for shooting steel and other tactical aspects. I see your in NOR-CAL so come buy the shop we have them in stock and you can see for your self.

I have the 3-15 and the 5-25. The reticle is the same size at the same power for both scopes and I won't say the reticle is useless at 3 to 4 power, but it is pretty small. The 5-25 only weighs one ounce more if I remember correctly. I would get the 5-25. I enjoy both and as has already been said, 15x is enough for 1000 to 1200, but the 25 just gives you more flexibility.
