which rail to buy for a new remington 700

I am buying my first bolt action, (by no means my first rifle).
I am getting a remington 700 mil spec 5r in 300 win mag.

I need some suggestions on a 1 peice rail for the top. I plan on mounting a cheaper scope i have laying around for now, and would like to get a mk4 or Nightforce at a later date when finances allow. None the less I need a rail. I see badgers rails are priced at $150, and I know that they are a quality manufacturer. But in the effort to save some bucks is there anything wrong with EGW rails?

They are less than a third the price of a badger rail, but if it will not last, or will flex i dont want to waste my money

FYI - US Optics also makes a quality one-piece.

I have the USO, Leupold Mk4 and EGW on three of my rifles. Buy the one of those that you can afford. None have disappointed me.

I have found that for me, it's better to spend a few extra bucks up front (Badger maybe). That way, I know that any problems are user error, and not equipment problems.

I'm not saying that other mounts will fail you, just that buying one of the "best" may speed up your troubleshooting processes later on.

I really like my NF rail. You may also want to look at Warne. I have been using one of their's on a 308 with no problems for almost 2 yr.

My recommendation is to look in the PX here and support a Hide member, and I can tell you that you are guaranteed to find a great deal on a rail at a great price. I built a full custom Rem 308 for cheap money all through the hide. Great group of people to deal with here. either that or find a Hide sponsor to buy from and tell them you linked up with them because they are a Hide supporter.

I got an EGW in the mail to go on my dads father's day present I got him (Rem 700 SPS Varmit in .243) I will see what its like but I like my NF 20MOA base on several rifles, like my Ken Farrel 20 MOA on my Win m70 (little to high for me though but it works) but I LOVE my integral rail on my Surgeon

Take a look at Larue Tactical. They now have a 20 moa rail. I bought one and put it on my 5R in .308. $75 and it is holding up good.

Night Force 20moa is good to go. I personally had a lot of problems with an EGW. They stood behind it and made it right. But for a base I like steel. The Night Force is stable and tough. Epoxy it in place and forget about it.

Get the Badger. I originally had an EGW 20 MOA base and it was nothing but trouble for me on my .308 5R. I had a Leupold rifleman 4-12 and ran out of windage adjustment at the 100. Changing my rings didn't help but changing my base to a BO did. I may have gotten a bad batch unit but it was money wasted since I can't even sell it.

What about Talley? They make very high quality rings and bases, and Midway is now selling Talley Picatinny bases that look great.

However Midway does not state if these are aluminum or steel. I just emailed Midway about this. Also Talley does not have them on their website, makes you wonder what is up.

I'm really happy with my Seekins 20MOA base and rings. Upgraded from EGW and Burris and am very satisfied with both upgrades.

The EGW base and Burris rings were fine, I just like the sleeker look and better fit of the Seekins.
