Have an AR... 16 in heavy barrel collapsible stock..... nice little carbine..cannot decide on optic. my two choices that I am considering are

1. Burris TAC 30 with the PEPR mount and the fast red dot on top for $499.00

2. Eotech...

This thing is just a toy.. carry on the ranch. in the truck. on the Polaris. in the tractor. Shoot a varmint... might try a 3 gun someday...just for fun... nothing serious in that aspect

just need some opinions from guys that have em

Thanks

Re: which scope to get?

the eotech for that purpose, also look at the aimpoint if you don't mind me throwing out another. IMO these optics are a better option for what you speak of, of what we around here all a truck gun. lol No matter what you here a "red dot" is a fine option for 100yrd or closer. I can shoot mine out even farther than 100 with complete confidence. Remember your "truck" gun will most likely not be shooting groups

Re: which scope to get?

I like the Aimpoint M4s, but the M2 might be better for what you want to do. Or, maybe an Aimpoint patrol sight?

Re: which scope to get?

Eotech seems to work very well for me. 1 moa dot is plenty good for 200m truck gun. I can consistently shoot 1.5 moa or less from a prone position with bags at 100m. Eotech 512, LMT CQB MRP and quality ammo.

Re: which scope to get?

I'd look at the Vortex 1-4 PST would be great for that.

I have a setup just like your building myself which i may let go of soon do to hooked on these damn bolt guns since joining here lol.

heres mine with a pst 1-4 whole gun with mag as shown 8.5lbs

Re: which scope to get?

I have a Burris AR332 on my do-all carbine, and I like it. For $275 on sale its pretty darned good. Glass is clear, bdc reticle for "precise" shots, reticle is etched so it doesn't rely on batteries, but is illuminated. Looks pretty cool.

It is fixed 3x with 32mm obj.

Worth a look, I think.

I recently tried the vortex 1-4, which is also a nice piece. Bigger, and more money though.

Re: which scope to get?

Shot a buddy's ar with an aimpoint micro the other day. It was really nice. Wasn't shooting 1" groups at 100 but 3-4" wasn't too tough. I would be fairly confident out past 100 too. Nice setup and easy to get on target quickly.

That's a great option for the state purpose. Truck/ranch gun can often mean it's getting beat up under the seat depending on how you store it. IMHO a reasonably priced variable fits the bill. Going up to 4x lets you reach out there.
