Just beginning my foray into the precision rifle world. I'm in need of a lot of equipment but one item I deem a near necessity is a decent if not great shooting mat. Top dollar? NCStar? Somewhere in-between?

I don't even know I need or what options I should be looking for. One option is the straps that hold your bipod legs. That seems like a good idea. I like the idea of "flaps" that fold out to make the footprint bigger. I think I want one that will also hold the rifle but I'm open to other options like the roll bag I saw.

Teach me. Please and thank you.

Don't over think it. Get one that is as wide as possible since your legs will be spread out in the prone position. Many mats are too narrow because they are geared towards the prone position used by sling shooters, which is narrower than the one used by shooters using bipods.

The straps to hook the bipod on are a crutch. Learn correct technique and the need for those straps goes away.

I have the tab one that rolls up super small for my range bag but honestly the midway that they put on clearance for 20 bucks periodically looks like the best value. Its larger but it has padding and is like 1/3 the cost when on sale
