Which Sightron SIII SS scope will be better for F-Class prone shooting with bipod, 600 - 1000 yards, Savage 12 F/TR .308? I have EGW HD F-Class Extended 20moa scope base and SS Tactical Scope Rings 30mm Medium. I may do some target/plinking at 100-300 yards as well, but F-Class will be the primary usage.

Sightron SIII SS 8-32x56 1/8 TargetDot (30-75 days wait)

Sightron SIII SS 10-50x60 1/8 TargetDot

EDIT: Or is the a better alternative for budget of $860?

Re: Which Sightron Scope...

I have the 8-32 fine crosshair on my Fclass 308, I can't stand the dot in the middle of the reticule, it is plenty of scope for 1000yds and under, I haven't found a better scope for the money.
It tracks perfectly and repeatedly, glass is plenty clear for black and white target shooting.
hope this helps.

Re: Which Sightron Scope...

Mildot might be a little too much in the image, just a personal opion though. I don't mind a target dot, it does draw you eyes to the center of the target. However, I prefer the fine crosshair for most benchrest or F class shooting. I like a clean picture with a consecutive shots at a known distance, no need to add a mil dot reticle if Im not using it for distance holdovers or calculating distance. I know we have the mil-dot and target dot SIII in stock. I do belive we can get the Fine Crosshair model sent to you from an offsite warehouse if you call in. Hope this helps!

Re: Which Sightron Scope...

I guess I'm completely opposite of Trevor on this one. I use a mil-dot for my F-class shooting and prefer it over the other reticles I've used. It makes it easier to make adjustments to get on target as well. I typically don't make the fine adjustments on my windage after my initial zero unless the wind really picks up so I just holdover for windage and the mil-dot is a lot easier to use because it doesn't have the dot in the center. A fine crosshair would be good as well but it's not one of your options. FWIW, I shoot with a couple guys that use the siii 8-32 with the mil-dot, I've taken a couple 1000yd shots behind one of them and the mil-dot was very nice and the 8" plate we were shooting was very visible in the reticle.

Re: Which Sightron Scope...

I use the 8-32x56 in my F/TR .223 with the 1/8 targetdot. If punching holes in paper is your main usage for this scope I don't think it gets any better for that price point. I prefer the 1/8" dot as it affords me a better view of the target but that's personal preference and this is at known ranges. I have two of them and have never had a problem, they work well.

Re: Which Sightron Scope...

Had the 8-32 w/ the 1/4 MOA dot. I would recommend the 1/8 MOA dot. I actually do most of my shooting with a max 22 power now and I feel that is a sufficient amount of scope. Between your choices, I don't see the need to move up to the 10-50. I never had a bad experience with my SIII and I think most of the guys around here that use them for F Class seem to like them. Unless you want to jump up to a NF benchrest model, the SIII is the way to go IMO.

Re: Which Sightron Scope...

Had a guy bring one of these to a sniper class. after day two it was very apparent that it was a piece of crap. "but it gets really good reviews on SH" he said.

Wouldnt track and repeatability was nil. he spent the next two days wasting ammo and class time as a result. Probably lost more doing that than if he had bought a reputable scope from a reputable maker.

Sightron aint one of those makers or scopes IMO. you just dont hear the thousands of long range shooters singing it's praises.

better off to wait another 6 months and accumulate your money to get a decent scope or even one of the many well made used optics offered here on SH regularly.

I would question if you know what your talking about ? especially just cause one turned up and wasn't good -I have seen more bad story's about S&B and I own a PM11 5X25 but I aint going to slag them off because someone's scope failed for whatever reason .

I Use a Sightron 10 to 50 power , it has a dot ,tracks , glass is reasonable and I hit shit at a kilometer
-Sightron 111 are not bad scopes and certainly don't deserve a bad wrap-bloody good value for a pretty good scope, just not as good as $3000+ kit

Re: Which Sightron Scope...

you should await the new 10 to 50 power with the moa reticle with a fine target dot 1/8 moa clicks -this will be a very good scope period. You could wait and save for a march ,s&M or something else but I personally think Id rather use the money Id save on the bigger dollar tubes for another project .The Sightron 10 to 50 power scopes are really very good-touchy paralax but no big deal once its set you'll send those boolit's home just like a big dollar scope.
