Hello guys

I need an advice for my Tikka T3 in .308 . The thing is, i want to duracoat it and i also always had in mind to thread the barell in order to be able to use a muzzlebreak or moderator with the rifle. And i thought it would be better to thread it before coating it, so that i could also coat the threat (thin coat) and also the threadcover(do not know the right term in english).

Now the problem is, that i do not know what kind of moderator i ll be using , and my gunsmith can fit any sort of thread on his brakes.

So my question is : Is there some sort of standart thread specs with which i would have a good chance to later find a moderator that i can fit on that properly ?

I thought i would go for a 1/2 UNF thread ... but what length ???

As you see i have absolutely no experience with that, so i would be very thankful for any advice ......

Kind regards

Abo,
measure the diameter of your muzzle on the T3 light.
You might be able to thread with M14x1 and have a bit of a shoulder left.
The normal 1/2"x20 UNF is not good for a 308 as you have very little meat left.
Alternative would be to thread with 1/2"x28 UNEF which is normally used on thin barreled 30 cals.
Do not paint the threads. Just oil and cover with a threaded protector cap.
Suppressors, moderators or silencers (whatever you want to
call them) are available in several threads. Fairly standard
are M14x1, 1/2"x20, 1/2"x28, M18x1.
I use suppresors on all my rifles. For hunting the new Delta
ultra light mods works really well and only weigh 200 grams.
