If you were going to put a .223 Tikka T3 in a McMillian stock, which T3 would you choose? Looking at the Tikka Website, I cannot determine if the TAC model is much different from the Varmint or Super Varmint. I know that the stocks are different, but I would be changing to a McMillian. The TAC costs 2x as much as a Varmint. Is that mostly hype, or is the barrel or action better?

T3's will fit into A2, Adj. A3-5, and A5 stocks, all come with an upgraded recoil block over the Tikka aluminum block.

I am going round and round about which .223 to buy. Savage, Remington, Tikka... I like the fact that the Tikka comes with an 1:8 twist barrel, so less "upgrading" needed. Now this is to be a practice gun, not a match gun. A .243 will be for tactical matches.

If it was me, I'd buy the Varmint. As best as I have been able to discern, there is no difference in barrel quality. After the stock there are no other differences.

Tactical has a magnesium phosphate finish or something like that on the barrel action and bolt so everything is subdued an nothing is shiny. Also it is threaded from the factory at m18x1 and includes a thread protector. Also has the adjustable stock. If you pay $1000 for the tactical then it is a good price. I would not pay the $1400 for a tactical.

Hope this helps
