Dicks has the Rem. 700 Varmint in 308 with a scope ( I pan on completely re-doing the gun ) for 349.99. Now Im interested in building a bolt action but not just yet. With this deal showing that is it 249.99 off of the price normally, would this in fact be a good deal? I originally wanted to buy a gun already set up, but with the savings here maybe I can make out to be the came price as a used one.

So with that all being said, is the 349.99 price a good price?

Its brand new? This is what I did to my SPSS 308 700. H-S PSV096 stock, Jewell under safety trigger, TPS 20moa bases and rings, its now a nice rig. Yeah, thats a great price if its new.

yeah its a brand new rifle today only. I wanted to buy a new complete rifle, but being this is brand new I guess its not a bad deal?

This is what the ad says:

700 varmint
assorted calibers
inclused 4-12x40 scope
mossyoak brush camp
heavy bull barrel
x-mark pro trigger

These are the same actions and barrels as other 700's right? I don't care about the scope or stock, as they are going to be replaced anyway.

From what I was told buy a guy behind the counter at a Dick's store, this rifle is the same thing as the SPS Varmint except it doesn't say SPS and has the old style X Mark Pro trigger. They are made for the Dick Sporting goods stores. Same Remmy 700, $150 less.

Thanks. i decided to NOT go with it. Id rather just buy one already built up a little bit later when Im actually ready to buy a gun. Right now Im not ready for this one just yet.

I purchased one. Its the Model 700 ADL Varmint with 26" barrel, Mossy Oak Brush Camo Beavertail stock, Remington Scope 4x12x40mm and Leupold rings and bases.

Here in NC it was $449+ tax and you are given $50 remington rebate and the $20 gift card. Tota of $379.

I thought it was a pretty good deal. Barreled Action would run more than that.

Re: Which way should I go? New 700var 308 349.99?

I went that route and I'll never look back. Got the rebate and sold the scope and stock for $50 each.

Before I purchased the rifle I called Remington to see if there was anything different about that barrelled action and any of the others, I was given an absolute "NO".

The same barrelled action as you'll find in any of the other offerings.

I also bought one yesterday here in Alabama for $449 +tax with the $50 rebate and $20 gift card. I also recieved a $20 cash bonus to take off my next purchase and if you use the Dick's scorecard/reward card you will get another $10 gift card.

Has got to be a great starter rifle at this price.

I picked one up as well in .243

448 + tax

-50 Dicks rebate
-20 Dicks gift card
-20 bucks in there reward card
-40 bucks from remington
-----------
320 for a new rifle.

Gotta get rid of the stock/scope crud.

its a pretty nice deal.

If i can dump the stock and scope for 20 bucks each or so your under 300 for a new 700 barreled action.

Mr. OEB,

Don't know which direction you decided upon, but here's a pic of the last group I shot. Got to a good range with solid concrete benches and some good sand bags.

10 rounds in the group circled in red.

[Basically just pulled the action, put it in B&C A-5 stock, added a Jewell trigger and a Vortex Viper PST 6-24X 50 FFP with a Badger 20 MOA single piece base.
