I know it's a Super Sniper, but I'm very unfamiliar with them. Someone once told me that at one point Tasco was making scopes for Super Sniper. I'd have a problem dropping $799 if that was the case. I like the looks of the Group Buy right now. Before I found the buy, I was considering a Trijicon T24. Can anyone offer any educated insight? Thanks in advance!!!!

SWFA bought the rights I believe to the SS line and they are now the ones having them made. Tasco no longer has anything to do with the SS. Don't discount them as they are great scopes.

Re: Who actually makes the SWFA SS HD 1-4x24?

They are spec'd and made for SWFA, they purchased the name from Tasco, and it is not longer affiliated to the plant that made the original Tasco Super Sniper.

SWFA has actually changed the name to SSHD and has completely upgraded and spec'd a scope well beyond the original name and design. It's a completely different animal made in a completely different plant in Japan.

As far as the money, everyone who uses them completely agrees these scopes are well worth the asking price and more. They are very good scope worthy of consideration by anyone.

Many other well known scopes are made in the same plant to include Bushnell among others. However make no mistake, this is SWFAs spec and it is uncompromising.

They are made in Japan for SWFA to SWFAs specs. Tasco owned the rights to the original Super Sniper years and years ago. They were the second or third owner of the line. SWFA bought it from them and revamped the original line a bit to make them better.

Now the new line is completely different, not even made in the same factory as the old line. They were designed by SWFA with a lot of input from the shooting industries wants and needs. They share zero common parts and are significantly better optics than the original line. And the original line was no slouch.

It's not Tasco, but I don't know for sure who it is. I really don't care though, it's SWFA that stands behind the scope and I trust them.

Mine is flawless, a great value for the money at the group buy price with the mount and other goodies.

I'm sure you saw this write up.....

Re: Who actually makes the SWFA SS HD 1-4x24?

One other point, Tasco never made anything. Very few of todays optic companies actually make the optics. They just pay Optics Companies in Japan, the Philippines, China, etc to make them to their specs. These factories can make excellent scopes or pure junk based on the spec level the customer wants. Really anyone could have a scope line made to resell and name it whatever they want.

I had a Trijicon 1-4x. When I got my first SS 1-4x, I like it a lot better than the Trijicon. I sold the Trijicon and bought another SS 1-4x. The reticle, adjustable knobs, glass, are all better IMO. The Trijicon is a great scope and if you are looking for a dedicated low light it would be a worthy contender. But all in all I think the SS is a better scope.

The general clarity as well as specific similarities in turrets and illumination controls to other scopes of known origin strongly suggest Light Optical Works of Japan. I would be genuinely surprised if they are not making the 1-4x SS scopes.

I hope so. Light Optical Works is considered Japan's finest OEM facility

By the same reasoning, I suspect LOW also makes Bushnell 10x mil/mil, and Weaver 3-10x40 mil/mil. But all those scopes vary significantly in optical clarify. So it all goes down to SS/Bushnell/Weaver's each of their own spec.

That's basically how much you are willing to pay for those features.
