Who shot today ?

Was a great day. Went to the range and met my regular shooting partners.

Wind was blowing like crazy...15 mph from a variety of directions.

Got to try out my new Elite Iron Bipod...was a sweet day...

^ That bipod looks very stable!

Bounced some cans around the pasture with my 10y/o yesterday. 22 rifle, 22 pistol and let him shoot 5 rds through a g17 (one rd per mag, it's too big for him). The sr22 pistol failed to extract 2 empties and failed to pick up the next rd several times. This is a new problem.

It is damn nice...much more stable than my ATLAS. We were shooting steel (4" disks @ 500 yards). We then put up some bullseye targets. Shitty photo through my Kowa spotter at 60X.

I had 2 sighters (5 o'clock) and 5 shots that are at 3 o'clock (one is not visible but in the orange at the right edge). The 5 shots measured ~2" @ 500 yards...I was pretty happy...not bad for a Damn Yankee

I went out Saturday and took my socially ultra liberal, stereotypical millennial step-daughter out for an intro lesson in how to shoot a handgun. She had someone creeping around her house that finally put her in the protective mindset that she needs something more than a Google Assistant and the car horn on her Prius to save her, so she came asking me to finally get her a handgun to use.

I wish I had a full day with her to teach her a lot more, but the three hours I had with her was better than nothing. Drove up into the Hills, gave her a lot of instruction in basics in safety and marksmanship fundamentals, set up some empty jugs and an Echo silhouette for her to aim in on, and she's both basically proficient in defensive handgun usage and comfortable with it. I sent her back home with my spare G19 to use until she can get one of her own, and I am 100% confident this will not be her first outing.

One at a time folks, that's how we do it.

Sent 20 .30/168 SMK's downrange Friday am. Chrono told me 4064 just ain't going to work, switching to Varget. Loaded the first test batch last night. Spent the weekend on the ND east coast with the kids, scored 1,600 rds of Federal .22 LR for $80. To good to pass up. Planning on testing the 308 loads and the new .22 ammo this week.

Days are getting shorter, to dark to shoot by 7:30. Might have to wrap up the work day a tad earlier.

Finally found some time to get out and shoot some 3 gun this weekend.

was supposed to go with a few buddies but they pussed out because it was cold and raining and they didnt want to get their panties wet.

was shooting the match with a brand new, never shot rifle...thing ran great except it didnt have a zero which made the longer shots impossible.

overall good day....cant wait for snow so i can go shoot on an empty range

Gun season starts Saturday in Texas. The range was thick with "hunters" getting their rifles on paper at "a hunnert." June-August is the best season around here. No rifle seasons opening soon and too hot for most people.

Took today off, need to burn vacay before I lose it at the end of the year

Went to my local range (VFW post, hardly anyone ever there) and focused on two carbine skills.

First off basic marksmanship by doing LAV's 25 yd Aimpoint challenge

Run 1 (baseline, unlimited time): 197. Would have been a 200 if I scored inwards but like Larry says "higher standard"

Run 2 (timed, 60 sec par): 195 in 36.88 seconds. I bet I can clean it if I had taken a few seconds more in standing and kneeling.

The drill:

Then the BCM triple 5. Best I could do clean was down in the 2.5 par time. Pushing to break the 2.4 par, threw one one of the black (2.36 sec) failing it.

The drill:

You're a stud .

Can you recommend a few drills for me to try

Wow, there's a ton out there and which ones to use depend on what your range will allow and what skills you want to work on.

Here's one of my favorite collections: http://progunfighter.com/drills/

I really like the 100 yard rundown drills. There's a few variations on it, the one I use is this:
  1. Target is a 9" paper plate at 100 yds
  2. Start at the 75 yd line with 20 rounds in the gun
  3. Run to 100 yds, drop and shoot five rounds prone
  4. Run to 75 yds, kneel and shoot five
  5. Run to 50 yds, sit and shoot five
  6. Run to 25 yds, five rounds standing

If you want to work on reloading under stress, start with one mag with five rounds in the rifle and three more on you, also each with five rounds. Reload as required.

That is quite the site. Lots of great info. I am slow tonight as I have had a long day. I apologize don't understand the instructions. Target is 100 yards from firing line. Start at 75 run to 100, drop and shoot.....I don't get it. If the target is 100 yards away and you start at 75 and run to 100, aren't you at the target??? Again, it has been a long ass day

Sorry I meant to say the target is at the berm and you start 75 yds away the run back to 100 yds.....bla bla bla

I picked up a stick-in-ground solar landscape light from Lowes. When I'm going to shoot that evening, I put it in the yard that morning to charge. Set it in front of and off to the side of the target. Works well here in the South, but your temps up there may be an issue for the light.

One of my target hangers is ~4.5" fence posts with targets that swing from chains between the posts. On the outside of the posts (opposite side from targets) I have some nails to hang chemlights. Dial or hold correction and aim for the light. Ill reticle needed. It's pretty neat shooting a target aiming at an offset reference and seeing a few streaks of orange splash coming off it

Went with my buddies son on Sunday to the range, got him sighted in for deer season. I did a couple dot drills while I was there and then zeroed the rifle for hunting loads. We didn't stay too long due to being 35F and raining.
