Joe Klein: Gun Advocates Feed People ?Anti-American? ?Crap? | MRCTV (You've got to scroll down a bit to find Joe)

TIME Magazine's Joe Klein appeared on Chris Matthews' weekend show Sunday, where he asserted that it is "crap" and "anti-American" to think the government might become oppressive.

"...What do they need all those bullets for? I guess they just don't feel very strong," he began, laughing as he argued that we have become a "lot more wimpy" as a country because "these gun advocates at the NRA want these semi-automatic weapons."

When Matthews asked how the "cowboy culture" factors in, Klein responded:

Well, I think that that's at the root of it, but there's something else that's going on now that is really, really dangerous, and it's this festering sense that we need to have these semi-automatic weapons because the government in Washington is about to oppress us.

    [...]

And that is paranoia that these groups like the NRA, the Gun Owners of America -- they feed this crap, and it really is anti-American.

Seems safe to say that Time magazine has gone the way of the propaganda machine.

I'm still reminded of JFK's speech on why an objective news media is important.

I believe it's part of the Secret Society speech.

For better or worse; Joe Klein: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Klein

The idea that political strategy is the product of Dilettantes sitting around drinking and speculating has been going on for millennia. As ideas go, it's pretty much spot-on.

    "Socialism is Totalitarianism" -Josef Stalin

Amazing quote, hmm? It's actual, it's factual.

People seem to forget what happened April 19, 238 years ago.

I'm sure someone in England thought the colonist were over reacting when they thought the British were after their guns.

    Some where in the US
Unfortunately, governments become oppressive by making laws after laws. When progressivism started in the US it was very difficult to pass laws, due to the system in place. You had senators who answered to the state legislators and governors, meaning they represented the state, and if they did not represent the state they could be removed and replaced. Now that the 17th Amendment was passed the senators are elected by popular vote just like the house members. This made passing of new laws much easier. Also, this was the progressive era and the progressive were out to right the wrongs of America. Not to say that some of the things they did were bad, such as child labor laws.

However, the progressives pushed to get the 17th Amendment to make the running of government easier and one of governments jobs is to make laws. Elected officials need something to make them look good so they pass laws. More elected officials means more laws. These laws don't have to do anything, but pad the elect officials resume. Once you have all of these laws, that are to numerous to keep up with, you start to make people criminals. Once you start making people criminals you can be selective in how you enforce these laws, thus making people afraid to do anything wrong or to speak out. You are now an oppressive government.
