Who uses their Sako TRG as a "beanfield rifle" ?

I just bought a TRG in .300 Win and I am really looking forward to shooting it. I hunt on a farm with lots of big ag fields. wondering what loads you prefer- thinking 180 grain bullets with R-22? NBT's?

I did not get a bipod for it. Most shooting will be done from tower stands, so i am thinking a good sandbag up front.

Can someone recommend a specific sling for the rifle? The sako sling is like 70 bucks!

Thanks.

Depends on how far you plan on carrying the rifle. I have both a TIS quick cuff and a TAB biathlon sling. The biathlon sling is king for long treks to final firing position, but a lot bigger for just shooting with. TAB also makes a nice cuff sling as well, those are just the two I happen to have. Just make sure you order it with HK hooks and you will be good to go.

You aren't going to be saving much money though, especially if you go with the biathlon sling.

well, I don't have to carry far. This is kind of a lazy man hunt, but fun! I am not familiar with HK hooks. Whats dat? <GRIN> This is my first tactical/sniper type rifle. Quite a change for me, but I decided to go the TRG route instead of a custom sporter build.

Got it, thanks. My rifle comes in on Monday. I also got the sako 3 ring mount.

Do I have to buy an adapter for the studs that are on the rifle, or will those hooks work directly on the studs. Thanks.

Sorry for the simplistic questions. Been hunting for over 35 years with "standard" sporting arms. This is a new arena for me that I am looking forward to learning.

I run a Viking Tactics (http://www.vikingtactics.com/prod_sling_VTAC-MK1-a.html) sling on my TRG-42 when it's in "beanfield" mode. I initially just put it on there because it was what I had lying around, but I've left it on there for quite awhile now. The quick adjust function comes in real handy during shooting because it allows me to cinch down as needed and it also allows me to pull the rifle in tight to my body if I have to jump on an ATV. You can run the VTac sling with either the HK hooks, quick detach swivels, or any other system that will work with the TRG.

I really like that. I may try the wide pad model. How did you attach the sling to your TRG? Did you need an adapter for the HK style hook? I see that Brownells carries the V-TAC and hooks. Need to place an order with them anyway. Thanks!

How do you like your TRG as a beanfield rifle?

I don't run the HK hooks, I run QD swivels. Love the TRG as a beanfield rifle. The factory bbl is a little long when utilizing treestands, but it'll reach way out there for a white tail when I need it to. She's great on 'yotes, too.

i'd go for some heavier bullets (although dont know what twist your barrel is, i just prefer heavier bullets in my 300mag)

try 208gr amax or 210 berger hunting VLD's
and work up a load with 71-72gr RL22 or 75-76gr H1000
and load them to about .010 off the lands or as long as your magazine will allow.

Yeah, I ended up going with QD swivels too, with a V-Tac padded sling. Thanks.

Thanks, I think I may have some H1000 on the shelf.
