This has been a 15 month ongoing process with many delays and road blocks.
We are proud to say that we just had our first Haitian child adopted into an American family.
Daniella came to us with two other children 4 years ago. They just stumbled up to our orphanage door. Our Dir called me right away to see if we could take them in. They were in bad shape mostly from starvation. We took all three into our tiny orphanage and all three fully recovered in a few weeks.
A gentleman named Ed and his wife came down to Haiti They were trying to find a little girl that he had seen on TV during a presentation of the Earth Quake. He was driven at all cost to find this little girl in this immense slum based on a picture that he had made from the show. Somehow he was referred to us. We are a very small organization. We don't have tremendous resources and normally we don't do this type of work. It was like finding a needle in a haystack. The slum population in Citi Soleil is around 300K. It took 5 weeks but we located that child and a meeting was made. During this time Ed and his wife fell in love with little Daniella and expressed sincere interest in adopting her as well.
The couple was screened professionally and passed easily. We waited a while to see if there was a good fit between all parties and there was.
All was in order so we started the adoption process for Daniella. We did not have any authorization for the other little girl so her papers took longer. Ed did this portion all on his own
Ed was the driving force in getting this whole thing completed. He was relentless in his quest and amazingly patient in the endless delays that he encountered. I have never met a man like him before.
He stayed in Haiti while his wife went home to look after things and prepare the house for two new family members. After a long journey of procedures, bribes, lies and delays both children got their Pass Ports
They arrived back in the US on Tuesday.
Great day for us, great day for Ed and his wife and a blessing/opportunity for two little Girls.
God Is Good!
