Look around your AO for fox shit containing seeds that look like brown butter beans. They will be either PawPaw, or persimmon.
Plant them. \
If they are pawpaw, they will bear fruit in one or two years.

I used to hunt a place that had about 20 or thirty trees near a creek bottom. Loaded with Paw paws. The farmer sold off the land and the new owners built a big fancy house and bulldozed a bunch of the timber along with the Paw paw grove. damn shame.

ArcticLight, I am looking for you but my trees are bare. Bad year I guess, wet spring, several late freezes and a summer (couple month) dry spell, may have played a part. Every time I see a tree I am reminded. Just no luck yet.

I got seeds stratifying in the fridge now, 40 more days and I'll get them started...

Hope you have good luck with those seeds.
I spotted some growing at a state park back in june or july. They were just starting and bout the size of an acorn. I would think that now would be about the time for harvest. FWIW my apple tree got hit by the frost back in spring, nothing on it this year either.
