Hi all,
I am new to snipershide.com and own a Remington 700 Police (modified with Badger mag kit + 5/19 rnd mag and Shooters Ridge bipod with pod lock). Attached is a Leupold M1 Ulta 10x scope (mildot, original Leupold mount and two-part steel base, made in the US in 1984). You can't imagine how hard it was to get this scope in Germany!
Now I want to modify the rifle to get an as perfect as possible "copy" of the USMC M40A5.
As far as I know I have to change the following parts ...
<span style="font-weight: bold">Barrel:</span>
- cut the original barrel to 24" (from recoil lug to muzzle break, overall length 25")
(I'll leave my original Barrel until it's time for a change. Afterwards I tend to replace the old one with a Shilen barrel.)
- Surefire MB762SSAL/RE Muzzle Brake/Adapter
<span style="font-weight: bold">Stock:</span>
- McMillan A4(A5?) Stock (pillar bedded)
<span style="font-weight: bold">Trigger:</span>
- Does the USMC really use the original Remington 700 (tuned to 2.5 lbs)?
<span style="font-weight: bold">Optics:</span>
- Leupold M1 Ultra 10x with Leupold steel rings (Does it make sense to replace them with the Badger Ordnance steel rings?)
- 30 MOA DDRoss picatinny base
<span style="font-weight: bold">Misc:</span>
- DDRoss Recoil Lug
- PGW PVS 22 mount
- Badger Ordnance mag kit
- Shooters Ridge bipod with pod lock (it's a copy of the Harris so I don't see a need to replace it)
- Tactical Intervention Specialists Quick Cuff Sling (tan color)
Now the big question: Why does the USMC use the McMillan A4 stock for the M40A5 instead the McMillan A5?
Do I miss something in my list above?
Please excuse my English! I am originally from Germany and I am still learning ...
My bro in law is an US soldier but he wasn't able to answer these questions, so that's why I ask you guys.
Thanks a lot,
Uwe
