Why has no one built/designed an Armalite AR10 lower with a DPMS/KAC mag well?

I've heard CMMG is going to be offering complete rifles with this feature, but no word on a release or even if they will be selling just lowers or stripped. I got conformation that they are designing the lower, but have not received an answer when I asked the other questions.

With all the topics going around about weather a LR308 and AR10 have compatible uppers and lowers...most of the topics I've read have one reason for the question, and that's Armalite Mags are too spendy. People asking the question want to put a DPMS lower on an Armalite lower.
We all know that's a NO-GO, but it would seem that some manufacturer would consider just putting a DPMS/KAC mag well on the bottom and calling it good.

I'm sure there is MUCH more to it that that, but has anyone else heard about it being attempted?
I've read about people trying to mill out the Armalite mag well to accept DPMS/KAC mags...but it would seem that it might be easier (depending on how much material needs removed) to just slightly trim a .308 PMAG to fit the Armalite opening.

Re: Why has no no one...

I asked myself this same question years ago.

I also answered it with another question to myself and that was "for what purpose?"

For what purpose would someone make an ARMALITE AR10 pattern lower to accept the SR25/DPMS/Pmag magazine? They can just buy the Armalite Gen2 mags. Or if they want to use the Pmag (which restricts OAL of loaded rounds to 2.800-2.810 at most), they just buy a properly patterned lower receiver.

As for the parts (rails, Bolt carrier group) there are machine shops that make upper/lower receivers like JD machine, that will use an ARMALITE barrel nut for the upper and a DPMS/SR25 pattern lower. I may be wrong and you should check with them if this is true.

People have grinded down Pmags to work in the ARMALITE for what reason I have no idea.

if you're going to do something like that, why not just use the lowers that accept g3/hk91 mags? you can get the aluminum ones for like $2 each.

Otherwise, it's really not a whole lot cheaper to run the dpms stuff (until the pmags came along, anyway).

Re: Why has no no one...

It can easily be done but there's one small problem. The Armalite AR10 upper receiver has a mag stop shelf incorporated that locates the front of the mag when inserted and limits the upward movement of the mag. This mag stop shelf is not compatible with the SR25/DPMS family of mags. So if someone marketed an AR10 lower with a SR25/DPMS mag well, the combination would not work without either machining away the mag stop shelf, probably rendering the upper useless with it's Armalite Gen1 and Gen2 mags, or every SR25/DPMS type mag would have to have material at the front of the mag removed in order for it to seat fully. Bottom line, it wouldn't be a drop in and ready to go deal. For those of us with the current Armalite AR10's, obtaining magazines is no more difficult than getting on the computer just like we do to get on this forum, and ordering them from Armalite. As to the cost, sure they're a little more expensive, $27.50 when you buy a ten pack of twenty rounders. If you're playing the 308 precision rifle game and you say you can't afford the mags, then you sure as hell must not be able to afford the rifle, optics, and ammo either.

Why would somebody do that? There's nothing about the Armalite receiver design that makes it better than the DPMS-compatible design...

Exactly. I have a recently completed build with a MA-Ten and a Noveske 18" barrel. Barrel is Armalite patterned and the lower accepts PMAGS.
