I have USO and NF Optics... but I need a more economical scope like ASAP... details below:

MUST HAVE:
Mil turrets
Mil reticle of some type
Decent Glass
No more than 4x on low end, 15x on high end
FFP

Okay use- this will be going on a .308 700P LTR right now, to be replaced after the first of the year with something better; at that point it will go on my .17hmr.

My two choices that I have narrowed it down to are, #1 the weaver grand slam tactical 3-10 from midway, or the 3-12x40 Bushnell Elite Tactical mil/mil, FFP.

Okay as I'm sure many of you know, only one of these is an FFP scope. Lets pretend that for whatever reason, the price difference is $200- weaver is $200 less than the Bushnell. I would like to have the scope by next Thursday to take on a deer hunt... do-able on both so long as it's ordered early tomorrow. These scopes spec out on the important stuff almost identically except for the FFP v SFP. I really prefer FFP and plan to sell my NF SFP to fund another USO in the future. Ideally, I don't want any SFP scopes... but it wouldn't be a huge problem on a .17hmr anyway.

I'm stuck on this. I'd like to hear what you guys think, which you would go with and why. I need to decide and pull the trigger on this like right Meow!

Re: Why is this such a hard decision?

Sounds like your decision is made. You like FFP.

The Weaver is very good glass and is priced right when it is $ 299.00 from Midway. But why waste the money. Pay the extra and get the Bushnell FFP 3-12 scope.

Here is a link to one of the Bushnells for sale in the optics for sale page.

I have the Weaver and I am very happy with it. If I was not paying for one of my childrens college tuition, I would most likely be shooting one of the Vortex Razors or the SWFA 5-20. But I am happily paying it and the Weaver allows me to get behind my rifle and get some range time.

Good luck with your decision and upcoming deer hunt.

Both cost more than the bushnell- although the PST is very close after mil-discount direct. But I don't really want that much scope for this given it will ultimately end up on a .17

Well, if it were to stay on one of my center fire rifles, it wouldn't even be a decision to make. But going on a .17HMR... I'm just not sure the extra $200 is worth it.

But you're saying if you were in my shoes, you'd go with the bushnell?

I would go with the Bushnell if I were you, but only because you prefer FFP. I can't compare the Bushnell scope to my Weaver, but the glass on the Weaver is very good. Everybody that has shot my rifle with the Weaver has commented how clear the glass is. But even with that said, get the Bushnell since you like FFP, otherwise to me it is kind of like you are wasting the 299.00.

Where are you able to buy the Bushnell for only 200.00 more than the Weaver at Midway for 299.00? When I look on line for the Bushnell it is priced at 789.00 (optics planet)or 899.00 (SWFA).

Well, I won't say specifically how it would only cost me $200 more. I'll just keep that a mystery (maybe don't want a one-time deal to get snagged up by someone else)

Re: Why is this such a hard decision?

Okay I think I decided to go with the bushnell- for two reasons- I prefer FFP; true as team send-it mentioned, with such moderate magnification and especially being ultimately used on a .17hmr... the FFP isn't really a must have. BUT, I can always get out of the bushnell exactly what I'm putting into it if I should decide to go a different route for the .17. Hell, maybe even make a little money. So it seems the bushnell is a no lose choice. Besides, at least I'm keeping my brands to a minimum; I have the GAP HDMR coming in Dec which is a bushnell and I have a bushnell spotter- I just end up running USO on my top end stuff and bushnell on my economy stuff. I like that idea better than having a vast array of different brands... assuming bushnell quality stays up.
