What do you get out of using moly coated bullets? I have never used and I'm thinging about giving them a try in my .223. Any help would be great

Been using moly for years BUT I'd take a serious look at hBN (hexagonal Boron Nitride), Cleaner, Does Not combine with moisture to cause problems and ... it's way slicker !!! That is all I use now.

But do you get any more throat life ? If there is no additional throat life one could argue whats the advantage as a barrel takes alot longer to wear than a barrels throat .Less Cleaning -not really an issue

I think the cleaning is important to the BR community, who may need fast cleans.
One would think that if you moly coat your bullets and your barrel (smooth kote) you would reduce throat wear by lowering the pressure via a reduction in the friction in the barrel. Im not 100% if this is correct but i would assume so.

Less pressure thru moly means less speed - why not just down grain to get the speed .I think it is the flame heat that does the throat its damage although I am going to email a mod to answer this as my answers are thoughts not facts.I have just stopped using moly .

Moly has many advantages. Except you gotta get all the moly out of your barrel if you should have to shoot normal jacketed projectiles and still shoot accurately, say, if you can't find them in stock anywhere. Unless of course you apply your own moly to regular jacketed bullets.
