Why ROE

Our ROE is are amazingly restrictive. It is like tying your right hand to your left boot and expected to succeed at MMA.

Can anyone explain the reason behind such a calamity. Is it supposed to make us look more civilized, restrained, humane?

How do you get around it? When the SHTF and it means your men do you still follow ROE?

I for one am not a fan of ROE at all. It seems like fail fail.

Without ROE, warfare is indistinguishable from organized murder and brigandage.

Life should have its own set of ROE. Your signature would tell me that you apparently respect at least ten of them yourself.

Yes that is true.
But
We are getting our ass kicked.
The gangs that we are up against have no ROE and the folks that should be protecting us can not do so effectively with the ROE that they are assigned.
Consequently we keep getting whooped.

I look back to the drug cartel and Pablo Escobar. There was not a meaningful end to that reign until the Los --- started fighting the same way the cartel did. It was only then did the tide change.

In 2005 in Haiti, the UN chased the gangs day and night rotating their patrols thus wearing down the gangs. Welio, the body guard/brother of the war lord came to me and said the soldiers are wearing us down. We can't sleep or rest. We are getting sick. Not long after , his brother was captured.

Since that time the UN has done little in our area. ROE has allowed a new breed of gang to surface and they are dominating everything.


I say this respectfully: But war is organized murder. You are trying to kill the fox that keeps eating your chickens
without killing your chickens in the process.

The most basic and simple answer is public relations. War is ugly, we try to put a pretty face on it by cutting out some of the scarier things. Also with the internet and 24/7 access to war, we have to mitigate mistakes that make us look bad. So we tighten ROE's so that we limit our ability to make mistakes, but it also limits us from fighting.
