So, i do a LOT of hog hunting here in CA, i mean a LOT of hog hunting. And recently i have been befriending some of the ranchers around the land i hunt on, and as usual everyone is scared to death her in CA of the liability of letting someone come hunt on their property. Well i have one guy im really getting in good with let me put up a trap by one of his corrals that has been damaged over the last week from hogs coming in the night. Well, i set up a temporary trap and threw in some of my homemade pig food, and guess what i came to find the next morning?? lol, 10 hogs. All were smaller 60-90 lbs, but were as pissed off as the big ones get. Shot some pics so you guys could see what we deal with here in CA. DFG has raised tags to outrageous prices in the last about 4 years, and all they are doing is contributing to the outrageous spread of these vermin. Hope you enjoy!

I wouldn't pay $10 to go and shoot one. They are just pests. I got tired of shooting them on our lease last year. </div></div>

5 years ago it was $7.50 for a book of 5 tags if i rember correctly (very reasonable) now it is over $20 a tag. Trying to take advantage of a growing market, and in my opinion are DESTROYING it. I know a TON of people who no longer buy them and just shoot as many as they did befor.

Agree with ya there....if those vermin were destroying my property, f*** paying for tags.

Re: Wild HOGS!

Can I ask what you baited them in with?

Sorry you have to pay to kill a feral animal that is destroying native habitat. Does the DFG not realize how counter productive that policy is?

Oh wait it's Kommiefornia, never mind...

Re: Wild HOGS!

we use corn mixed with anything we can get our hands on. One guy from our lease has a brother that works at a lab that does testing on food products so we get all sorts of junk. Right now we have 3500lbs of peanuts and 2000lbs of potatoe flakes. They really like it when we have cranberries to put out and molasis.

Re: Wild HOGS!

California needs a serious revolution. AS a Nor-Cal native, well transplanted from OC down So-Cal way, pigs were 2 in the fridge or two in the truck, then it was 1 in the fridge and one in the truck.
I miss hunting piggies in Nor-Cal. Best time was freely shooting them and the venisons at a couple wineries and going home with meat for the table

Re: Wild HOGS!

The secret to pig feed is one simple ingredient..... MAPLE SYRUP! you can go with any 50lb bag of steer feed and throw a bottle of maple syrup on the top of it and they CANNOT resist!

On the reason behind the increase in price on tags, there is never any good reason. Just saw that it was getting more and more popular, and that means that there is more money to be made!
they have no idea how much they are hurting the effort to eradicate these vermin from farm land

Re: Wild HOGS!

I say four or five rounds of double-ought-buck should solve that problem................................ but you didnt hear me say that and the box of double ought vanished from my truck, must have left it at teh range......... o well.

Re: Wild HOGS!

Snotty tree-hugging California charging people $20 per tag to kill a non-indigenous and highly invasive species? Are these Russian hybrids? It is estimated these animals cost us $1700 a year in damages and there are 2,000,000+ of them out there now. On the outside it appears this is the act of greedy bureaucrats, as I doubt they will make enough money to cover the damages they were never going to assist with anyways. They would be better off with a yearly license.. but even that is ridiculous.

California Department of Fish and Game have always managed for lack of a better word thru emotion not biology. Don't expect them to change their management style anytime soon!

Re: Wild HOGS!

I say you keep on catching them using that cage. Then drive them over to Nancy Pelosi's Napa estate and release them all. I think that would be a lot of fun watching them destroy the shit out of her vineyard. Just think no one would want to pay $20 to help her get ride of her hog infestation.

I think PETA would be on your side too. Since you didn't kill them and just relocated the hogs.

Thank GOD I no longer live in CA

Let us not forget you are behind the "Redwood Curtain" in The Peoples Republic Of California!

Re: Wild HOGS!

I have searched for hogs in Sonoma county, but have not found any to shoot yet. Lots of sign, but it could be old. You must have a good spot...
