Wildland fire season is upon us here in the southwest as well as many other areas of the country. The guys from Texas have already been hit hard and it's just the start.

Some things to think about if you are out hunting, camping, fishing, hiking, or shooting.

If you have a campfire be sure you have a large area cleared out around the fire pit and that it is scraped down to bare earth.

Drown your campfire out. Use 5 gallons of water and stir the fire pit up to extinguish underlying coals.

Do not leave campfires unattended.

If you smoke, be sure to completely extinguish your butt or even better smoke only inside your vehicle and use an ashtray.

When parking your vehicle do not park in tall grass, brush, or weeds as the catalytic converter or hot exhaust can start a fire.

If you are in an area susceptible to wildfires be sure to have an escape route. Areas with one way in/one way out should be avoided.

If you see smoke, active fire, unattended campfires, or something that you think is a risk of starting a wildfire report it.

Check with your local fire department or forest ranger office for fire restrictions.

Be smart, be safe!!
