Look the cases are IDENTICAL. Some people even neck 308 down to 260 so the case SAYS 308 on the case, yet it has a .264 bullet in it. I'm not doing that and I don't happen to think it's a good idea, for the very reason you might get things mixed up.
I suppose you'd think the poster was a moron for wondering if it's possible to DOUBLE CHARGE a case. Well if you pick loads that are more than 1/2 of the case, it isn't possible. Otherwise it IS. So if you are going to load charges that are possible to be double charged, maybe it is prudent to take precautions (like buying a powder monitor), or take other safety measures.
I just loaded 60 rounds of 260. Looking at the cases, bullets, oal, it would be pretty easy to mix it up and chamber it in a 308. Now, what would happen if someone did that, I ask myself? See, asking those questions is how people AVOID making that mistake. Unless you are one of these people who never consider the consequences of making a mistake, becuase you believe you never make one.

OP is being fairly prudent in this case. I just read recently of a round (can't remember what it was and no... no link) that *I* would have NEVER thought would have been able to chamber, not only chambered but fired and blew the action apart because the bullet was too large for the bore. IIRC, it was here on the Hide. Two guys shooting, similar ammo, simple range mixup. KABOOM.
It's VERY GOOD to think these things through ahead of time and take the necessary precautions. Even people with lots of years of experience make mistakes.

EDIT: OP... take out your firing pin, or load dummy rounds (always better) and try it. Then you'll know and you won't have to accept Internet lore for the future of your face or hand.
