I'm assuming you are looking at a 5/8x24 threaded barrel...if so, here is the diagram for the FTE brake. You will need to check your measurements/profile on your barrel to determine if it will work without reprofiling of the barrel:

I'll have to give them a look too - looks like a good alt. to the badger without having to shave off more of the barrel

Yeah - just eyeballing it up - it looks like that collar would just cut into the fluting. But maybe i could have the smith machine the inside of the brake instead? I am wondering if that affects the performance of the brake in regards to vibration... maybe it doesn't matter.
- Also, hopefully they will be able to make me an end-cap - that's the other reason why i might want them to machine the inside of the collar of the brake.

So you guys think it would be ok to machine the brake under the clamp part to match the barrel? if it doesn't take too much out? I think everything being the same, it would probably clamp over a little of the fluting, but that should be ok, right?
this way my end cap would work. Or maybe i just won't get a badger, i just wanted to have something that "went" with my AI stock even though it's not an AI -- just a rem700 300 winmag.

The problem with opening up the inside of the brake is that it will still be clamping onto a barrel that is neither straight nor concentric to the bore. The FTE is designed to clamp onto a shoulder machined into the barrel that was indicated off of the bore. Would it work, yes, could this cause a problem, maybe, is it going to look good, that's up to the individual but for me it looks strange.
