The problem with opening up the inside of the brake is that it will still be clamping onto a barrel that is neither straight nor concentric to the bore. The FTE is designed to clamp onto a shoulder machined into the barrel that was indicated off of the bore. Would it work, yes, could this cause a problem, maybe, is it going to look good, that's up to the individual but for me it looks strange.
