will an AW barrel screw on an AE rifle?

Just wondering. I have an AE and was wondering if i bought one of the AW tubes floating around here and there if it would screw on and run properly?

AW works in an AE but not he other way around

The difference between an AE and AW barrel is that the AW barrel is fully threaded below the barrel shank. The AE has a smooth non-threaded shoulder area where the recoil lug goes before the threads begin. An AW barrel works fine on an AE, you can just slide the recoil lug over the threaded portion.

No prob with AW to AE, but not the other way.
