These Lake City bullets are are mil spec M80 bullets and are steel jacketed, flash copper coated just like the Winchester Q3130 308 (7.62x51) ammo. They have a cannelure and nice finished heel with exposed lead.

The steel jacket will wear out your barrel quicker than copper jacketed bullets. I personally would find something else with a lead core and copper jacket if it were my choice.

Well I could swear when I ordered them a year ago the old page just said lake city or maybe steel core but NOT steel jacket. The only reason I ordered them is that they were not steel jacket and I needed a bunch of them.

I have worked up a load with them and maybe fired 300 down the tube. Maybe more Im not sure? The only reason I even noticed the new website and new description is I was looking for a BC on them.

Crap!

I have a 30 cal can of them (aprox 600) loaded up now. Guess I will just store it for emergencies.

So would 300 rounds max hurt the 5R barrel in any way. Man Im pissed right now. I know that page did not say steel core when i ordered them.

Shoot them! Whether your barrel 'wears out' after 6000 rounds or 5500 round because you shot them is no big shakes. Barrels are consumable.

Good luck

Have you put a magnet to bullets in question? Could well be that bullets you ordered are not steel jacket w/copper flashing.
Wideners sells a lot of bullets, when you bought bullets it could easily have been guilding metal jacket and lead core. Current offering from Wideners has steel jacket with copper flashing.

Put a magnet to them, if it sticks you have steel jacket.

I'm with Jerry, shoot'em up.

Magnet sticks hard. A sharp knife scrape on side shows shiny steel jacket underneath copper plating.

Im going to store them for shtf or other emergencies.
