Which would be more cost effective?
Which would offer the best reliability/accuracy?

I was given a M70 in .243 for my 30th. It was the first rifle I deer hunted with.
It's never shot better than 2" and now that its almost 40 years old, I'm betting it won't be getting any better.

I'm planning to rebarrel and have decided on a SAUM.

Would the more experienced masses suggest opening the factory bolt, buying the proper extractor and blueprinting everything, or would a new PTG bolt be a better choice?

I don't believe that PT&G offers a replacement bolt for Winchesters. Also I'm not sure opening up the bolt face is possible as the extractor location would be lost. Maybe better asked in the gunsmithing thread??

Yes they can, I made several 1000 yard rifles in 300 WM for the AK NG Rifle Team on post '64 Model 70s.

    Cheaper then a new bolt.
