The area around the recoil lug is a given, but how much of the rear should be done? I have a-lot of gap around the rear tang now.

I bed the entire action around the rear tang and the recoil lug and the area around the mag box. Essentially the entire action is bedded

Thanks, I'll bed everything. As you can see there is plenty of space for bedding to go. Never had a stock that had this generous of an inlet before.

I bed mine flush. Plenty of mold release and a quick swipe with the Popsicle stick. Almost like caulking.
